My claim came through from the Halifax on Thursday, it took about four weeks in all and just one letter. Now I just have to wait until they receive the signed claim form - probably Monday - and see how long it takes for them to actually put the money back.

    Claimed for: £247
    Recieved: £260

Not sure why they've given me the extra but I'm not complaining, will think on it as postage costs and interest. :D

    Amount Reclaimed: £84
    Amount they paid: £84
The story: The payment to the linked savings account bounced because I had reached my overdraft limit - they charged £34 for this. The £35 charge took me over my overdraft limit so I was charged £25. Five days later I was charged another £25 as I was still over my limit.

I phoned and complained - they refunded £25. I wrote - they said no. I wrote again with the letter threatening legal action and they refunded the remaining £59.

Great site, I'm complaining about my endowments now ...

Was made an offer today of £1500 which I refused. Telephoned an hour or so later offering me the full amount. Money will be in my account within 5 days.

    Bank - Barclays Bank

    Amount reclaimed £2950

    Story
Wrote the 2 standard letters requesting charges back got standard letter back offering me half.
Issued claim on Moneyclaim website, in late March, the bank waited till the last possible minute to go through system.

Received another letter from my local court giving me hearing date of July 06. Received an offer out of the blue from bank that was £950 short of claimed amount. (THESE ARRIVED ON THE SAME DAY!)
Wrote letter back to bank, requesting full amount, 10 days after that received letter offering me full amount, ... nearly 2 weeks later they finally transferred the money into my account, very very close to hearing date.

It took around 5 months! I did it with the help of the consumeractiongroup.

I started thinking about taking action after reading a thread about illegal charges on this site just before Christmas, it was gradually getting longer and longer and more and more fascinating, I'd have a look every week at that thread, as it was like a story, but with real people and real results!

THANK YOU MARTIN FOR YOUR WONDERFUL ALTRUISTIC CONSUMER SITE
did you fill in an allication form to the small claims court before your court date?,
  • I've got two accounts that I closed. One was due to the charges I received and the other was a joint account with someone i'm no longer with.

    1. Will I be able to claim the charges back on the closed accounts?
    2. Will I be able to claim the charges back on a joint account that is also closed?

Also - does it include charges when direct debits and cheque payments were not honoured due to lack of funds?

First Trust are probably the worst for charges as well as their rip off fees. However there has been some success against them;)

I wrote one letter to MBNA, with the £10 cheque, asking for a full list of all charges against my credit card. I received a reply today denying everything, giving me my cheque back (!) AND giving me £1250 credited against my account! Best letter I ever sent! Tomorrow I will be clearing the remains of my account and I'll be shut of them!

Hope you log in again - Just a quick question - When they credited the funds did they stipulate that you have to clear the balance in full and close the account - or was that wholly your decision??? as i would like to claim back charges but do not have the balance if they insist upon clearing the account!

    Hope to hear from you

    Thanks

  • Can anybody help?

I started the process of reclaiming my bank charges in Augut and after sending in the initial letter with the £10 fee recieved 6 yrs worth of statements. Natwest had taken £2500 from my account in charges over the previous 6 yrs so i sent the standard 2nd letter without response. The 3rd went off saying that i would take to court with no further notice if i didn't recieve a response and way hay i got one. This told me that they believed all thier charges to be fair and that the 'unfair charges' that i am refurring to only relate to credit cards. They finished by saying that they would not be funding any charges.

What do i do - Carry on and request a court date or give up and admit defeat?

    Loz
