I have been reading this website for around 3 months now, and it has been an enlightening experience.
I followed the instructions on how to claim unfair bank charges from Smile Internet Bank and I won!!
I would just like to tell everyone that it does work and that it is worth pursuing. Just follow the links and advice from this site.

Royal Bank Of Scotland
£1186 claimed
£1186 refunded.
First letter got me my 6 year statements. Second letter asking for my money back only generated the expected "our charges are fair and your getting nothing" reply. Third letter was more like it generating a offer of 2/3 which I refused and then claimed using Moneyclaim.
Letter today offering full amount.
Result!

I had just got a loan to help me out with this, when I put the loan cheque in to clear they took £1100 of the money and told me that they were closing my account I'm now with another bank.0

Amount Claimed : £1625
Amount Accepted :£1460
After looking through my online statements for the past 6 years, i sent a preliminary letter asking for £1625 back on the 25th September, this morning I got a letter offering to make a payment of £1460 as a full and final offer, which i have accepted, just have to sign and send the letter back and within 7 days of receipt of the letter, i will have the amount in my account.
Please, if you have been charged unfair charges, ask the banks for it back. I can't believe how quick my charges will be refunded, i was expecting it to be after xmas. And yes the lady in the avatar is me

Hi and thanks to money saving expert, just recently i have made a claim for unfair bank charges for the last 5 years at Barclays for £3500 + the £120 court fees, now they have offered a defence and i got the allocation notice which i filled in and sent back to the court, together with another £100, well now i have a letter saying that the court wants a
1/ provide details of the account in repect of which it is alleged charges have been made.
2/ set out the legal basis for his claim that the charges are unfair and unjust.
3/set out a full breakdown of the way in which the sum claimed has been calculated including the date on which each charge was applied to his account and the sum on each occasion.
sorry but im a bit of a layman and dont seem to understand what i have to do next,
can some one please help me out here
thanks Andy0 -
Bank: FIRST DIRECT
Amount Reclaimed:£30
Amount they paid:£30
The story: OK maybe it's not a great deal of money, but better in my pocket than theirs! I noticed that First Direct were going to charge me £30 for going over my overdraft limit, I sent them on online message stating that I wasn't happy paying this charge. They replied with an offer saying they would reduce it by half. After reading through Martins article here on moneysavingexpert.com I decided to challenge this, I replied saying that I thought the amount was still excessive. Although I didn't receive a reply the charges were refunded in full to my account before they were even taken out! well done me and thank you to the forum, Martin and of course First Direct.0
