What about default charges on Bank Loans ? Can these be reclaimed in the same way as bank accounts and credit card charges ?0 -
Nationwide
Please can someone help?
- MCOL claim entered on 29/01/07 for £432.13
- Acknowledged on 31/01/07
- On 07/02/07 £262.36 and £50.00 was refunded and I had a letter to that effect. Letter stated it could not refund any further as they had no other record of charges. After speaking to a member of the Northampton Service Centre, she said to send a breakdown. I told her, they already had a copy but sent another one recorded delivery which they recieved on 10/02/07.
- On 13/02/07 £120 was put in to my account and shows as correction - the same as the other amount above. I have not recieved a letter to state what this is for. Do I assume this is another refund???
After the first refund, there was £169.77 outstanding. If I do assume the £120.00 is another refund it means there is only £49.77 outstanding.
Would you wait for Nationwide to get in touch or would you contact the bank to find out what the £120 is???
How do I inform MCOL that I have had some of it refunded? The 28 days are up at the end of the month, what happens then???
Oh, by the way I have had 2 letters from Nationwide saying they are closing my account - the letters have different dates on them.
Thanks in advance, sorry its a long post0 -
Have just started the ball rolling with nat West - can I ask a question from you very informative bunch.
When I get to the point where i calculate the 6 years charges, do I go back 6 years from the date of my original letter to Nat West?
You've probably covered it somewhere here, but I've read so much, my head hurts!0 -

2) I had a natwest account that i closed some point last year and have nothing with my sort code or account numbers on and have made numerous calls to Natwest call centers and branches all telling me that can find no details of me on any system....i am definatly not dreaming....i DID have a nat west account and want to start action to recover but can not even get as far as requesting statements from them.......
Thanking you all in advance for any help i may recieve...
Markie
if you go into the branch and be nice to staff, and explain that you need the sort code and account number, might be able to help if you can remember where you openened the account, and roughly when you closed it, your previous address you had on file when the account was open, they may not be able to give you an answer there and then, but ask them to raise a query they then have to file it on the syatem and give you a reference number so you can keep chasing, wouldnt recommend telling them at this stage that you are after the account number for getting the charges back. Hope this helps:pRemember, be nice to members of bank staff, you'll be surprised at how much they will help you! But they dont have the powers to refund everything without sending it up to regional offices for authorisation!:D0 -
Bank : NatWest
Amount claimed £1532.99
Amount recieved £1632.99
Wrote first letter 29th November 2006, two weeks later filled in MCOL form, on the last day of deadline NatWest filed defence and action was transferred to local court. Recieved and filled in allocation questionaire, got a hearing date of 23rd April with a letter from the judge asking me to submit a scedule of charges BUT also giving the bank two weeks to provide their own schedule of charges including a full breakdown of their actual costs. Recieved a cheque in full on 15th february.0 -
Bank: Capital One
Claimed: £1184.83
Received: £1184.83
Filed Moneyclaim on Jan 29th, Capital One acknowledged and I was waiting for them to file their defence. Got a letter this morning stating that they would pay me back in full!!
Thanks so much to all on the site who have helped.

Right - Natwest bank - I'm coming for ya!!0 -
Bank: Capital One
Claimed: £575 (charges + interest)
Received: £575
Moneyclaim filed on Jan 25th, they acknowledged and then the day after the acknowledgment they sent us a letter offering the full amount and interest.
DPA letter was sent last October so we dragged this out a bit too long to be honest. Obviously doesn't matter about timescales (from a customers perspective) but they need to stick to theirs

I am self employed, and I have it on very good authority from two clients (on the inside!) that HSBC and MBNA pay out as a matter of course. HSBC have their own department set up to deal with the claims. I myself claimed against HSBC and it was very simple and straight forward. My "insider" at HSBC also mentioned that HSBC are looking into NOT charging the high fees in the future as they want to be seen as being "THE GOOD GUY" so to speak.
I think with what's happened it's paved the way for other banks to follow suit. With so much media coverage which financial establishment is going to get away with these charges in future?

Bank: First Direct
Amount Reclaimed: £2,800
Amount they paid: £2400
The story: Sent a letter requesting charges info, it arrived by courier 7 days later. Sent my claim letter the next day. 9 working days later I received the offer of £2,400 and chose to accept this. The money should be going into my account any day now! Really chuffed, although I never go over my overdraft these days and could have done with the money more back then!!
Am now doing helping my mom out with Credit Card late fees, have already received £162 back!0 -
