Bank: Cahoot
Amount Claimed: £108.20
Amount Paid: £108.20
"I am contacting you in reply to your letter dated 08/01/2007. I have taken ownership of your case in order to provide a response to the issues raised in your letter.
It is well known that banks make charges and cahoot's charges are in line with those of other banks. The terms and conditions of the account and the charges that apply are clear and fair and were provided to you at the time you opened it. You freely agreed to the terms and conditions and the charges when you opened the account. You were not under any obligation to do so and could have gone to another bank if you did not agree to the charges. Equally, you are free to move your account to another bank at any time if you do not agree with the charges.
In any event, we do not agree that the charges are disproportionate. The charges are reasonable and proportionate to the administrative costs incurred by cahoot.
Having reviewed the history of your account I can see that in general your account has been well managed and the charges detailed in your letter represent uncharacteristic breaches of our terms and conditions. Given this and the fact that you have been a customer for two years, I am willing to consider a full refund as a gesture of good will.
As a protracted discussion is in neither parties' interest I have now credited your cahoot account as requested."
Thanks Martin. Not thats its as big as some of the claims above but it's still money I thought I didn't have any longer!
This response was received after my initial claim letter! I had previously sent them the cheque for £10 asking for a summary and they sent me a full record of all transactions to save them time and they didn't cash the cheque.
Should I let them get away with the 'we do not agree that the charges are disproportionate' and 'as a gesture of goodwill' or pursue them for an admission?

I have just managed to get £1290 out of HSBC. Original claim was for £1434.
It took just two letters, with a £1 recorded mail on each, that cost me £2.
I sent the first one on Dec 29, nothing scary just writing to them and ‘spreadsheeting’ the charges over the last 6 years, using the BBC’s template letter (here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6170209.stm - nothing against the money saving one - the BBC's was a little more creative though).
Got a “we’re looking into it” letter back last week from the infamous Colin Langdale, sent another direct to him to gee them along a bit and threatening to go to small claims court, and hey presto, offer letter arrived yesterday, which actually seems to have been sent BEFORE they received mine.
I have to say the very wordy acceptance letter they send is hilarious, saying 'we don't accept responsibility' but by giving the money they basically do. Priceless.
Sent back acceptance form (I'm happy with the amount), so with that I can now pay off my HSBC managed loan and be debt free from HSBC.

Hi all,
Just received letter from bank saying they have received my letter and that a Customer Relations Manager will investigate the points ive raised and i will receive a reply shortly, but certainly no longer than 4 weeks.
Do i give them the 7 days since they received letter then send the 2nd letter?
Thanks in Advance0 -
Hi there,
I just wondered, I went into my bank and asked for six years of bank statements, I had to pay £5. However I am now concerned that by asking in the branch and not using the letter posted on the reclaim site that I may have jeopardised my potential success, ie the bank closing my account etc
Should I worry about this or just keep going but, without using the first letter?
Please help!
Many thanks ennis0 -

Stick to your own timetable. Send the next letter once your first deadline has passed. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

The first letter is only asking for your statements using the Data Protection Act. It wont make any difference in your case at the moment except if they take longer than 40 days to respond. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Thanks
Send your second letter along with another list of charges. HERE is an example of how I list them (using Word) when writing to the bank (just add up the years at the end of the document). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Thanks Rex_Mundi. Have had a look at your format. Didn't set my charges out in the same way but hope that as long as I've stated the date, type and amount of charge things will go ok. HSBC seem to be acting like I never sent them a list of charges in the first place, which I of course did. Sent 2nd letter off this afternoon so fingers crossed!0

Thank you NS! I intend to. This is the 1st thing I am doing in connection with sorting out my finances at the ripe old age of 41!! :jA cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
Just a couple of questions if I may.
NO.1. I sent a letter to abbey reclaiming charges, I also have an abbey credit card, will they take the money off the card or is this a seperate company completely?
NO.2. When claiming what date can you claim up to?
Thanks.0
