No you can't claim back the £10 as they are entitled to charge this amount for the information.Right, just popped home at lunch and had a package from the bank, they had sent me statements from Oct 03 to Dec 03. I didn't use the template letter from this site as I sent the letter off before I was aware of it. My letter stated about the 6 years worth of statements and the £10 fee but not a lot else. Is this just a diversionary tactic by the bank to fob me off? do I need to have included all the terminology in the template letter? should I start again and send that? also can I claim the £10 back they've charged me for these statements?
Up to 27 packages so far and still missing most of 2005 and half of 2006 and up to £838.50 in charges.
Just to clarify I can claim back 'account charges' as my account is supposedly free and the interest on my overdraft is the banks?0 -

HSBC and 9 other banks
I'd be surprised if there are 9 other banks nowadays0 -
melaney_delaney wrote:I wrote to HSBC just before Xmas asking them to refund £2036 of charges on three accounts. They tried fobbing me off by saying they didn't have to analysis my account for me (I sent in copies of highlighted statements as suggested) and if I wanted them to look into the charges I had to send it in in a table. Luckily, (being particularly sad!) I had already typed all the info into Excel so I just e-mailed it to them saying if I hadn't got the money back by 5th Jan, I would be going to court.
By 8th Jan I hadn't heard from them so I sent a email informing them I was going to court. Before I had chance to complete the court paperwork, I received a letter from them offering me £1875. Needless to say I bit their hand off. The money was credited into my account a couple of days ago. They haven't told me they're going to close the account (yet) but I already have another account with Halifax anyway.

This is very reassuring! I am just waiting for the last of my statements to arrive before I start with the HSBC0 -

My bank has listed money they've debited as "interest" - interest on my ovedraft and then "Total Charges" which is the variable one each month depending on how bad I was with going over my overdraft. I presume they are the penalty charges and they have worded them differently I just wanted to double check.0 -

It was the above comment that confused me about your account being "free".
I have a "free" overdraft of £100 but if I go above that amount I have to pay interest, is this what you mean by "supposedly free"?
You can't claim the interest on this but I would suggest you ring your bank and ask them to clarify exactly what they mean by Total Charges as each bank uses different terms.0 -
Hi,
I am new here so sorry if this has already been posted and answered elsewhere or if this is in the wrong thread!
I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems opening a parachute account due to the fact that there has been charges on their current account in the past three months, and if so what you did to get around it? This is the boat I am in at the moment and it is extemely frustrating as I'm sure you can imagine.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.0
