  • I have recieved my charges information, although up until Sept 2001 they are in statement form. On the statements there are charges which read "O/Draft Usage Fee" and "Unauthorised Borrowing Fee". Can these also be claimed for?

its comical some of the crap they come out with bit of a personal insult to your own intelligence really init

When I asked whether it came from the bank manager, I actually meant it as a joke. I didn't for one moment believe that he would...........

    A) Think for a moment that the banks could stop people asserting their rights as set out in law by getting an injunction.

    B) Be stupid enough to try to spread this sort of misinformation.

  • Hi all

Just wanted to share my experience with NatWest.
Ok firstly, I didn't know I had to 'apply' for an overdraft with them, so I put most of my money in the savings account rather than current account. So at one point, my bank balance was -1.00 or something like that, because of a direct debit transaction with O2. I topped it up the next day as I didnt want to see a -ve on my balance. A couple of days later, I found out that they charged me £38 for going negative!!!

I got really annoyed about this and went to my branch to complain, and the idiot behind the counter with a very unprofessional cockney accent refused to refund me the £38 in spite of my explanation, and he said I should've been aware that I have no OD in my account. The only thing he did was hand me a complaints leaflet.

I felt helpless and came on here, and found a letter template on how to complain about unfair charges. I wrote a letter and exaggerated my story a little giving them 1 week to reply to me. sure thing, I got a reply within a week saying 'I'm sorry but we are receiving high volumes of complaints but we will see to it asap' sorta thing. But to my delight, in the first week of January I got my £38 back, with a nice letter from them apologising for the unfair charge.

So in conclusion, I just want to say thanks to this forum because I couldn't have done it without you!

Would Unarranged, as in "Unarranged Borrowing Fee" mean the same as "Unauthorised Borrowing Fee" which is written on my statements?
  • Sorry also O/Draft Usage Fee is not on list on Post 4, can this be claimed for?
  • Bank: Coop
    Amount Claimed: £2135.22 (interest inc)
Amount rec'd £1688 (all charges, no interest)

Cant believe how easy this was - am so pleased!
Sent letter 8th Jan. 13th Jan rec'd standard "holding" letter saying they were investigating my complaint etc. Then yesterday 20th Jan got letter and cheque - they paid up the charges no interest, as a "gesture of goodwill".
Encouraging all my friends to do likewise.
Thanks to everyone on site esp edinburghlass .

    Hello everyone,

I've been looking at old bank charges I incurred with a First Direct account I've just closed due to their new charges. They only amount to £67 inc interest. Is it worth trying to claim or is this too small an amount?

  • O/Draft Usage Fee - Reason its confusing is that there is one for £5, and two for £25
