All the information you need is in Martins article. It tells you step by step what you need to do, and contains downloads for template letters at each stage.

Thanks Rex_Mundi i will check and put my 1st letter in on monday.
  • Bank: Halifax
    Amount Reclaimed: 3927.07
    Amount they paid: 3882

Started claiming a couple of weeks before Xmas, and was sent a holding letter for four weeks - They sorted it within the time and I'm overjoyed!! This will stop us getting into the same trouble again! Pays off the Overdraft, and a couple of credit cards to boot, so my wages can be used for my family again, and not to keep the bank!

Thanks eversomuch, it's very liberating, and I recommend this site to anyone that is in a similar predicament.

  • Hi There

I am new to this. Anyway, I have a few questions which you may all be able to answer, sorry if I am posting in the wrong place!

    1. When I put in my claim, do I claim for the full charge or just the excess from the recommended £12 charge?

    2. Can I claim from accounts that have since closed which applied late payment fees, like the following?

    American Express Credit Card
    Nationwide Credit Card
    Littlewoods Catalogue
    Black Horse Finance Loan

Also again for these, does this include claiming the whole fee?

If anyone can throw some light on these questions I would be most grateful for lots of help!:rotfl: :rotfl:

The story: Took a little persistance and patience, but finally managed to claw back all the money that left me on the brink of bankruptcy and losing my home after redundancy. Whilst life is still a bit of a struggle, I'm now debt free apart from the mortgage! Lots of great help from the consumer action group.
im waiting for reply from Lloyds tsb since 11/1/07 to pay or court action hope my persistance pays off. like yours did, well done mate :T

  • Hi had a loan with HFC aka Household bank that was through pc world for pc back in 03, in 04 i took another loan out with them stupid i now, but looking at the paperwork i can see that i have been charged £553.73 for the settlement of the previous loan. Do you think ive got any chance of getting that back seems a lot to me.
  • I wrote to HSBC just before Xmas asking them to refund £2036 of charges on three accounts. They tried fobbing me off by saying they didn't have to analysis my account for me (I sent in copies of highlighted statements as suggested) and if I wanted them to look into the charges I had to send it in in a table. Luckily, (being particularly sad!) I had already typed all the info into Excel so I just e-mailed it to them saying if I hadn't got the money back by 5th Jan, I would be going to court.

By 8th Jan I hadn't heard from them so I sent a email informing them I was going to court. Before I had chance to complete the court paperwork, I received a letter from them offering me £1875. Needless to say I bit their hand off. The money was credited into my account a couple of days ago. They haven't told me they're going to close the account (yet) but I already have another account with Halifax anyway.
