  • BANK - HSBC
    Amount Reclaimed - £1,336
Amount they Paid - £1,176 (they can keep the £160 as i admit i have managed my account badly over the past 6 years.)

They paid up a day before the second letter was due to be sent.

This is a paragraph from the letter i recieved today:

'HSBC is, however, mindful of the management time and irrecoverable legal cost that it may incur in relation to such a claim. For those commercial reasons alone, and without any admission of liability whatsoever, HSBC is prepared to make a payment to you in the sum of £1176.00 in full and final settlement of this matter. This represents the charges applied up to and including 30th november 2006'

EXCELLENT RESULT!!!!! Brilliant start to 2007!!! will pay of my holiday and overdraft

    hello

I have sent the first letter requesting my full amount of charges this week but I am incredible worried as I dont think I can open another bank account anywhere due to a bad credit rating. I currently have a student account and have been a student for over 6 years, so Ive been getting a full £1500 interest free overdraft for the past 2 years. I am worried they may try to close my account after reclaiming my charges (I think these are in excess of £1000 anyway) but I am afraid my charges will not cover my overdraft and I will be left without even being able to open a current account.

does anyone have any advice about apporaching other banks in my situation?

    thankyou!

I am in a very similar situation, I am claiming from abbey and have a student od with them(£1250). Luckily i managaged to get a acc with co-op bank and they are going to match the overdraft and do a transfer from abbey. I feel safer claiming when i know my account is closed and they cant do anything to me once i get my money back. Have you tried opening another student account and try and transfer over....try and go with co-op/ smile. Its best to have some sort of back-up just in case they turn nasty.

  • Hello there. Isn't this an eye-opening site? I was hoping to ask if one letter, and cheque, is sufficient to cover several accounts (some now closed, as I've gone from being a Sole Trader to a ltd company...)

    Thanks for your time.
  • Yes as you are asking for all Data held on you as a person and not individual accounts.
  • I have successfully claimed £2138 from A&L but since they settled, they've made more charges to my account because some items were drawn on a cheque waiting to clear in my account. Can anyone tell me if I can reclaim these further charges?
  • Thankyou kindly! I'll report back. They're Lloyds TSB accounts. People seem to have mixed experiences of how fruitfully they settle.. Any horror stories?
  • Husbands account.
    BANK: NatWest
    AMOUNT RECLAIMED: £925.85 interest: £272.39
    AMOUNT THEY WILL PAY: £925.85

Started process in December, recieved letter 9th January stating that they offered this as a gesture of goodwill without admission of liability or error. If unwilling to accept admin charges in the future, related to unarranged borrowing, they will need to consider whether they can continue to offer the flexibility of his current account that he has now.
We have accepted the amount minus the interest as we are happy with this offer.
Thank you so much Martin for all your wonderful advice and help. As my husband was made redundant last August this has been a huge help!

from reading the posts on here (i havent had charges to claim myself) the theory is you can if they didn't make you sign a disclaimer that you wouldn't claim again HOWEVER they are more likely to close your account if you claim a second time, tis your choice basically :)

  • Bank: HSBC
    Amount Reclaimed:£1503.35
    Amount they paid: £1350.00
The story: Sent the first letter on the 16th November 2006. They replyed on the 8th January 2007 with a letter offering £1350.00. I Know we should have stuck it out for the full amount but it will pay our debts off. Thank you money savers. Just waiting for the cheque to come through the door.
  • Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I've been looking for posts relating to credit card charges and can't find anything answering my query.
Anyway, I have a 0% credit card with RBS and have been charged £12 for going over my limit.
Is this reasonable, as I know they have reduced the charges allowed on credit cards? Does anyone know what this £12 covers, as i didn't receive a letter - just a charge to my credit card (maybe they used very expensive ink!). I also thought that if I had reached my limit, my card would be refused?
I tried phoning them to discuss it, but the CS advisor just kept repeating that it was non refundable and advised me to pay more than the minimum amount to clear the excess, which I did.
On this month's statement, another transaction for a whopping £4.79 went through before they received my overpayment, and as a result have been charged another £12.

Can anyone help? Do I have grounds for complaint?
