hello
I have sent the first letter requesting my full amount of charges this week but I am incredible worried as I dont think I can open another bank account anywhere due to a bad credit rating. I currently have a student account and have been a student for over 6 years, so Ive been getting a full £1500 interest free overdraft for the past 2 years. I am worried they may try to close my account after reclaiming my charges (I think these are in excess of £1000 anyway) but I am afraid my charges will not cover my overdraft and I will be left without even being able to open a current account.
does anyone have any advice about apporaching other banks in my situation?
thankyou!

I'm afraid there's not much you can do if the bank want to close your account. You need to make sure you're ready if this happens. You would have a period of time to repay any overdraft. If this is going to be a problem, you may want to wait until you are in a better position.0 -

I claimed £30 in wrong charges that Nationwide levied on my account. They sent me a letter admitting they were at fault and refunded it on 2nd January. Today I received a letter saying they are closing my account after 26 years for having resorted to the small claims court to retrieve the wrongly levied charge. I had written to them 4 times since September and telephoned them once but still didn't get the refund until I took them to the small claims court.
Customer service at Natiowide branches is notoriously bad and I only bank with them for the online banking services but this confirms conclusively that they don't value 26 years worth of business and bite back when you complain of them making mistakes.
Their loss though. Mine and my wife's salaries are paid into Nationwide accounts every month and my son has a mortgage with them but now they will lose all that business and I would actively dissuade anyone banking with them.0 -

Bank: Halifax
Amount Reclaimed:£2,600 plus court costs of £120
Amount they paid:£2,720
The story:
Was given details of this site by a great friend! Used letters etc from site and took on the Halifax. After 5 days of fitst letter received offer of half amount claimed. Waivered but then decided on principal to hold out for full amount. GOOD MOVE!! Had to go through process of issuing court proceedings which Halifax said they would defend (GULP) but then 3 days later got a letter to say they were settling in full. Took approx 6 weeks from start to finish. Result! Moral of the story is.....don't lose your bottle, persevere and enjoy getting something back from the big boys. Now can afford trip to Oz to see old school friend. Thanks to Martin @ Money Expert! and thanks to my great buddie for recommending you!

Your bank is the only person to be able to tell you what they call their charges. List in this post of some of the more common terms of what you can claim.
