Just go on with your next letter as they haven't replied in your timescale.
  • hello edinburghlass , thanks for your reply i am away to post the next letter tomorow, i just read another thread somewhere that says you can only claim back 5 years of charges in scotland do you know if this is true and do you think there would be any repocussions for trying to claim back all your charges over a period of 8 years for instance
    cheers craig

after pressure from family members i've been looking into this reclaim thing today but there's so much to read and i haven't waded through it all yet. although it's probably already been answered can somebody please tell me what happens if you have more than one account with the bank?

i'm on the joint account with my husband and he's had charges but i also have my own account with overdraft (no charges to reclaim). if he claims charges on our joint account and halifax close the account can they also close the other account that is in my name only?

  • hi all !

first time posted on this site,
i spoke to a mate of mine who told me about this site, i logged on and seen
in disbelief the storys you all were telling , large overdrafts , charges , charges and more charges.
i thought it was just me!

i recieved a statement of my account today and was shocked ,between my partners salary and my own salary, we put last month into the bank over
£4000 we have been charged ,get this, in one month £269
    IVE HAD ENOUGH !!!
how much does it really cost to them i reckon no more than £2
i will follow your leads in the fight against these charges
any help that any of you could give me would be much appreciated

I am posting my first letter in the morning using the template from this site.
Just wanted to say thanks to Martin (and Radio2) for bringing this matter to my attention in the first place and all the success stories I have read or I would have thought about it for ages and then just bottled it!
If I'm successful I will update you.
Heres to a better managed year.

Sorry Folks for being persistant but has anyone got views on what I should do next? Thanks
from my understanding of things, they themselves become in breach of contract if the charges they levy against your account become penalty charges. A charge becomes a penalty charge if they claim more than it actually costs them to administer the initial ocurence..i.e does it really cost £35 to return a d/d as unpaid?........if they have made any form of profit on this charge then it is a penalty which is unenforceable by law..not quite sure if it makes sense to you but think its the general idea.....so perhaps try to reply in that general way.............i shouldnt worry too much about them trying to put you in breach.think its probably just scare tactics....but personally wouldnt cash the cheque or accept it as full & final payment at this stage........perhaps someone may be able to explain it better.but i hope you get the general idea.............good luck
  • I have just looked at my account online and I have been charged £186 in the last 4 days (I have been waiting for a cheque to clear and it takes "5 Working Days" apparantly)

I know charges are not only unfair but I thing this is silly and very dangerous. This figure represents nearly 20% of my monthly wages. These charges have been caused because of some previous charges. I am going to go about reclaiming the charges but I think it is time a governing body stepped in and says enough is enough and puts a stop to this.

I have to put an end to this because otherwise i will be working just to pay the banks off (Does that sound like a good life to you guys?). I am finding it difficult to get out of this circle but somehow I will. I can't see this circle ever ending, I have to do something to put a stop to this but at the moment I can't see it ending anytime soon. I feel as if I am just working to pay off the banks. After budgeting I figured i have got no disposable income left this month so I salute the banks for this for making mine and many other peoples lives a misery!
