Very quick offer of £690 without interest made (within 2 weeks of 1st and only letter) which I accepted. Money refunded within 3 days. The whole thing was done in less than a month - so easy!!

Bank: Yorkshire Bank
Claim: £1066
Paid: £488.50
I just got a letter from these today (6th) saying that they still stand by there letter dated 4th November. They did reiterate that it is my responsibility to keep my account in order (again)etc etc.
This is the important part or the letter that i think will give people dealing with this bank a little faith as i believe it is one of the harder banks to do this with:
However, the Bank would like to resolve this matter with you without the dissproportionate expense of a court action. I therefore enclose a cheque in the sum of £488.50. This cheque is tendered without admission of liability and is in full and final settlement of your claim and your encashment of it will be taken as your acceptance of this.
They did also say that they would have a counter claim, but thats got to be rubbish because they just sent me a cheque??0 -
Bank - HSBC
Claimed £1100 - £1400 with Interest
HSBC offered to settle for £980
Hi all - just want to say thanks Martin for the best site on the net! - I've not posted before but read regularly and have saved a packed thanks to your site. (and recommeded to friends who have too much credit card debt like myself)
I've just received a letter from HSBC offering £980 to settle my claim which i'm going to take (after posting the 7 days to reply or court proceddings letter) - all through following your very simple letter writing process. I would urge everyone to do it - takes so little effort and you can end up with so much money back.
Cheers Again.

The story: Took a little persistance and patience, but finally managed to claw back all the money that left me on the brink of bankruptcy and losing my home after redundancy. Whilst life is still a bit of a struggle, I'm now debt free apart from the mortgage! Lots of great help from the consumer action group.0 -
Hi everyone,I have reached a slightly problematic stage in my claim with Yorkshire Bank.
They have sent a letter from Customer Relations in Glasgow but on Yorkshire Bank headed paper.
Apart from telling me that the charges are all my fault and threatening me with breach of contract they have sent a cheque for less than half the claim stating it is full and final settlement and I will be deemed to have accepted if I cash the cheque - I undersand the response I need to make in terms of accepting as partial payment but continuing the claim but should I cash the cheque?.
Also they sent this letter on the same day that they acknowledged my MCOL claim against them (Yorkshire Bank PLC) giving them 28 days.
Do I need to tell the court anything?
They have also acknowledged the claim stating they intend to defend all the claim but in the name of Clydesdale Bank PLC and given a Glasgow address.
Do I respond to their offer to Clydesdale at Glasgow?.
Finally I would like to say a big thankyou to all board users and in particular Rex Mundi and Edinburghlass for giving me the support and confidence to get this far.0 -
Hi, new to chat forum, so don't know if this is how to post a message, but here goes. Have just totted up bank charges with OH and are ready to send off first letter on Monday. However, have got a charge coming out of account on 16th of this month and don't know whether I can include a charge that is yet to come out in my list. Can I do this?
Thanks for any help.0 -
2hapennys wrote:hi, i saw gmtv this morning, and frankly i cant believe it, but having read your sucess storys, i thought hey its worth a go, last month alone i was charged £252 by the alliance and leicester, i complained and they offered me £17.50 back, which would not even but me back into my agreed overdraft, i emailed again and they then agreed to refund £35, not very good. I have just sent off my £10, and asked them to send me all the charges over the last six years, goodness knows how much it will total too, I am then going onto Capital one. WIsh me luck, i will keep you all posted.
Has anyone had much sucess with A&L cant seem to find much info on the forums.
Thanks
i have recieved my statements this morning, and i have worked out the charges, £6006.50,(this does not include any intrerest charges yet) however I have been given over the six year period £355, back from A&L after complaining (bless em!), do I deduct this from the total, that would leave the charges at £5785.50, now i am confused because the total is over £5000, I am going to write to them (step 2) but do I need to write two seperate letters, or just go in for the full ammount, and split it into two for the MCOL stage?
Any help is appreciated Ta xx0
