  • no, the policy has been cancelled. He rang and told them but wre told that cancelling the policy and making a claim were two different things.

He is in court friday morning and will hopefully be banned for a while

it may be the best thing for him to be banned for a bit, but also he will save on paying insurance for a few years... and petrol, and road tax, and mot's and servicing etc.

but when it comes to the time when he does go to get insurance it will hit him like the brick wall did!! 0 no claims bonus, a drink driving conviction, having a policy cancelled all adds up.

I think he deserves a flipping good ban.

It is going to sting a bit but at the end of the day for preferable to what could have happened. at least he will have chance to get back in the car, told him to get another ford as the car did a good job saving him. my 1996 corsa would have folded like paper

You said he earns £350 a week... er... thats a decent salary...

What planet do you come from?

£18,200 a year is a pretty decent salary and is more than a LOT of people are on, and if that is take home, well its even better isn't it?

    (£350*52 = £18,200)

For those slating the OP for still having some involvment in her ex's life GROW UP! Its perfectly possible to have a decent (friendship) relationship with an ex - of course if the split isn't amicable its a bit different. I still speak to two of my ex's on a regular basis (and often help one with her car)

Although, his court date has been and gone

20 month ban and £380 fine

sounds like he got off a bit lightly there, but maybe thats for the best, the money situation will hit him hard enough in the longrun, and he'll find it a lot more difficult to get places without his own transport, but then if you can't be responsable in a car you shouldn't have one.

the whole claims process can take a very long time, i was run off the road by a dangerous R driver (r plates are a NI thing in case some people dont know, you have to display them for a year after passing and are restricted to 45mph max) and i hit a womans garden fence, that was in september, i have driven past it at least once a week every week since then and its still not fixed!

is there any word of his outlook on life changing? or is he seeking help or advice? ie AA meetings or anything along those lines?
  • I think the lesson has been learned. He hasn't drank to much since, but he's like a lot of people a binge drinker. Works 12pm -10pm each day and has one night out a week, and drinks to much.

At the time i can actually say in comparison to how i know him to get i don't think he was really drunk. He's a big bloke with a high tollerance level so although over the limit, i don't think he was anything mroe than tipsey.

He's starting to understand his debt more with my help. This has taken his head out of the sand somewhat.

In regards to what he got, i think it's fair for your first offence. Most people have the 'it won't happen to me attitude' and won't be told different until something happens.

If he were to do it again i would expect the judge to throw the book at him and rightly so. But i really hope this won't happen, otherwise i shall not be speaking with him for the rest of the century.

And to those who thought i was silly. He's been a great help to myself this weekend. I had my car broken into, my car door being crowbared open and steering wheel snapped. Monday he got up, spent 2 hours trying to get me a good deal to tow my car. Went with the bloke to pick my car up and took it to the garage, which i would have struggled to do as i was at work, not being able to take a day off. Friendship is understanding people make a pigs ear of things, but if they help you as much as you help them mistakes they make like everyone does should not mean the destruction of a friendship.
