Car Written Off with 3 1/2 Years Finance

Mornign all, i'm in need of a little help.
My loveable ex decided it was a good idea to put his car into a brick wall. He was over the legal limit (no comments are needed about drink driving as when he's back to good health i'm going to put him in hospital myself for what he did)
He has 3 1/2 finance @ £172 a month left on the car. Obviously his insurance is void due to his drinking.
My question is what is the best course of action? The car is worth little more than £200 scrap. He has other debt and i've looked briefly at bankrupsy but he gets £350 a week wage so i don't think thats going to work.
He's not a bad egg, but with his car, loan ect he's got around 15k of debt, i'm hoping to get him back on track as he's had a fairly good reality check and want to get things sorted.
Any advice much appreciated.

Oh Dear !
Has he really done that much damage then, to now state is only worth £200 scrap if lucky? What car WAS it? Like you say, even if he had insurance it will not pay out for his benefit in any way at all, but will still be liable to any third party involved I do believe.
A very costly mistake if still got outstanding HP on vehicle, as will still need to pay this off and then will more than likely be banned for a set period, followed by difficulty getting any decent priced further insurance for about 10 years, I think.
Can you post a picture?

Why do you say his insurance is obviously void? (A lot of companies do not void their cover for drink driving)
Does he have a previous Drink Driving Conviction?0 -

He made his bed, he's got to lie on it. I suggest he makes some economies in order to save money - how about giving up drinking??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

His car was a ford focus. Hit a brick wall, and i'm quite sure the car is 100% stuffed. I have a picture but at work at the moment so shall post later. (friend in car but neither injured badley. wall took the most damage)
He know's he's and idiot. Not a bad egg just made some bloody silly choices for which he is certainly going to be paying for.
The police have advised he will be banned, although the fact he stuck around and called them as well as admitting everything will go in his favour.
I did get him to ring and check and the insurance is void. They have cancelled the policy.
No previous drink driveing conviction.
He will certainly not be drinking for a while. Over the last few years he's gone a bit silly and racked up some debt which is obviously worse now with the car. I believe he deserves a second chance (i don't help again if advice not taken) to get his pennies in order and sort everything out
If he tells the finacne company, as they have no car to claim back if he defaults will they want a lump sum?I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
The finance co would probably ask for a lump sum based on the settlement figure but would most probably accept the continuation of the monthly payment rather than take any other recovery action.0

I know of 2 people who wrote off cars while drunk and in both cases the insurance paid out.0

He rang and in their terms says drink driving cancels the policy. I also checked this myself on his policy. No money at allI get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0

More to the point he better hope his passenger doesnt sue for injury.0

That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0
