More to the point he better hope his passenger doesnt sue for injury.

He would still be covered for 3rd party, inc claims against him.

What they might not pay out, if the fully comp side of things to repair the car, but will repair walls/signs/barriers etc.

Agreed, ins co. will cover all third party costs for passenger/wall owner, where neccessary. It's the policy holder who will lose out.

Having your insurance voided and a drink driving ban is really going to sting him in the pocket once he can drive again.

  • Yeah he knows. The best thing for him is to sort his debt out while he can and hopefully save for a car when he's allowed back on the road.

Yes but they could also try and recover their loss.
  • The lady on the phone told him that in drink drive cases they cancel the policy outright. They are sending him some paperwork in regards to this.

He has GAP insurance, which is also void if drink driving.

Ouch. I can't think of much he can do, looks like it will turn out to be a very expensive and long term lesson :).

They can chase your ex for losses incurred, i.e. rebuilding walls or personal injury calims of third parties.
