You said he earns £350 a week... er... thats a decent salary...

What planet do you come from?

In my eyes £350 is a pretty healthy salary. I wouldn't say no to it anyway! Maybe you earn mega bucks, but to a lot of people £350 a week is good.

Well, my salery is £200 a week. so would happily take £350. Hence i think he's a plonker for getting into so much debt. but whats done is done and the best i can do is hopefully make him learn how to manage his money

  • I'm Sorry to say this but how anyone can condone somebody that is more than twice over the Drink drive limit is beyond me. He deserves whatever he has coming to him and misssarahleigh you would be better steering well clear unless you still hold a flame for him so he does not take you down with him.

Would you be so prepared to stand by him if he had killed someone? fortunately he did'nt because if he did he would be spending time behind bars. Looking at the photo's you posted this is someone that was not sticking to the speed limits. In such cases his insurance is null and void which is just as bad as not having any, so we all end up paying with hiked up renewal costs.
There is no excuse for drink driving and I would wager a bet that it's probably not the 1st time, but this time he copped out.

I apologise if I sound harsh but I have seen too many times the results of Drink drivers.

I don't condone drink driving in any way shape or form. And yes, this is not the first time he has done so, unfortunatly it has taken this event to knock some sence into him.

Had it been worse i would be horrified and would never forgive him, but yes i would stand by him. We may not have worked out as a couple but i can happily say that (drink driving aside) he's a top bloke. Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes which he has, as everyone else has in some way. He's a hard working, honest bloke thats made some bloddy stupid choices.

Should he do this again in the future i would walk away and wipe my hands of him, but i won't condem him straigt away. I would hope that my friends and family would do the same should i make some bad choices and stand by me making sure i'm learned my lesson.

I personally scream at every person i see speaking on their mobile and driving, i see that as prob a bit worse as there sober and know the dangers, drunk people normally feel invinsible.

I don't think you sound harsh. As a group i hate drink drivers, as an individual my ex is a very good friend who was a total idiot.

I think you got the wrong end of my post. I was directing it at iolanthe that was saying £350 a week isn't a good salary.

In my eye's that is a very good salary.

Having looked at those photo's. I think your ex was very lucky he wasn't injured. The front of that car took a hell of an impact, but the crumple zones definitely did their job!

  • He could not remember the damage. It was dark and he got taken away by the police so didn't stay to see the car. When we went in i said that my plonker ex smashed his car and the police woman advised that we would prob not be able to drive it away.

He looked at me horrified and said i can't believe your ex isn't dead! that bad i replied and he just shook his head lol

I told him his next car best be a Ford out of respect for what a good job the car did in saving his life. I have a 1996 corsa which would have folded in two had i been in an impact like that. no way i would walk out with only bruising.

    Lol??

I don't think your or your Ex are taking this anywhere near as seriously as you should be.

Evidently a planet full of ignorant tw*ts.

£350 a week, is around 24K a year (if the OP meant aftertax).

The 'mean' wage in the UK is estimated at 24K, so he earns more than 50% of the UK population.

    To me thats decent.

I don't quite know what makes you think that but i assure you we both are. i'm being practical about the situation he's in. no point in moaning about what could have happened, what could have been done different etc as whats done is done, and i'm quite sure you lot don't really want to hear it

Well I think that because you are using the phrase LOL and trying to make light hearted comments about the level of damage, He on the other hand has just washed his hands of it and is taking no responsibility for it.

As for practicality wise. Not really. Your trying to get out of it as much as possible instead of working out how you will pay the damages.
