Four books as previously mentioned to CS this morning and only came home with one, another Henning Mankell to be read once I have collected all the Kurt Wallander ones. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0

How about you make a deal with yourself - dig out a cookery book you haven't really used much and use it for a good few weeks, making lots of delicious food. Then maybe treat yourself to the cookery book next month?
I did fail in the end...I had wanted that particular book for 2 years, since the series had been on TV and I started making pasta. Then came the offer of free postage and I was done! I will follow your advice from now on, skinty:DFirst they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -

Hi everyone!
I bought a book...and when it arrived I demolished it an afternoon.
What is this book, I hear you ask? Diaries of a Fleet Street Fox.
What did I think? It was good. Very good: fast paced, at times hysterically funny, at others tear-inducingly sad and with a fair bit of life wisdom thrown in the mix.

put on the library list!
I must tell you all that the cookery book I bought is the best book purchase I've made for years, so I'm really glad I gave in. It's "Simply Italian" by the Chiappa Sisters. I make fresh pasta during the summer almost 3 times a week and it's full of new ideas...I might get another copy for Lovely Daughter's 18th as she'll probably get a pasta maker and definitely a food processor (also moving to Uni).

Woke at 04:30 this morning feeling grotty, so finished Bring up the bodies - Hilary Mantell. Really enjoyed it and got into it straight away, I found Wolf Hall much more difficult to get going.
Came across Jo Nesbo The Bat in a CS at end of last week, half-way through it as I took it along to Jury Service,(so much waiting around doing nothing:() I really enjoy the off the wall 'tecs like Wallander, Rebus etc and Harry Hole has joined the list, just need to get my sticky mitts on Cockroaches and then I have them all (have read The Readbreast and Nemesis already).
Just looked and Diaries of a Fleet Street Fox is not listed in county catalogue:(The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

If you're a member of the library you might be able to request it? Not sure what the rules are in your county but if a certain number of people ask for a book they'll buy it (up here anyway). It's not out yet as an audio, so I'll wait for that.
Still on The Mist by King. I don't think I like it (don't shoot me). I seem to be making a conscious effort to crack on with it so it will leave the house and I can choose something else!First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
Can I join in. Long time lurker and feel I might benefit from joining in the challenge. I keep buying books (usually from The B00k People or 2nds from Amazon) but my stash is growing and the pile of unreads is not going down!
I love to read but my usual time for reading is on the bus to and from work...this would be fine but recently I've been falling asleep book in hand so I'm going to attempt the going to bed earlier and reading for half an hour tack!
I'm in the middle of a clear out session so I'll pop back later with my figures!! I'll be surprised if it's not heading towards 100!NSDs January - 3/8 2017 total - 3

Welcome, Penguins86! You're ahead of me as I don't even dare to count my books! At the moment I'm reading "Truth or Dare" by Celia Rees, a cast-off out of the teens' room. I am enjoying it, a story about a boy who finds out about his autistic uncle who mysteriously had died at 13 and his childhood in the 50s. It will go in the bag for the local school.
I have given in temptation only once this year yet (a lovely cookery book I am definitely going to use!) but my neighbour is now a quite famous thriller writer and I will get several copies of book 3 and 4 to have them signed, 1 each to keep & some to give to friends as presents. These occasions are quite different from my earlier habit of just impulse buying books on offer or in charity shops etc. so I'm not too concerned ...First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -

Thanks for the reminder about Bring Up The Bodies - I might get that to take on holiday. I did like Wolf Hall, but it was quite difficult to get into the writing style. Sometimes I had to read a sentence a couple of times to work out who the author was talking about, as she referred to everybody as 'he', and I couldn't work out whether it was Cromwell or another 'he'!
