Hi everyone! Massive lurker coming out of hiding here. The piles of unread books I have seem to present the challenge of how high I can make them, not whether I can read them all, so this is definitely a challenge for me. I don't even want to think about how many unread books are hiding on my Kindle!
Currently reading To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. Have read Mrs Dalloway before and loved it; this one is a bit harder to get through, but I seem to be enjoying this one even more, so no qualms there.mrs-moneypenny wrote: »i liked A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian i found it really funny, not at all what i was expecting
Oh, I spied this whilst browsing an age ago and I forgot what it was called! Thanks - though now I'll have to try to resist the urge to buy it!0 -
I Love Jo Nesbo books but as I've read them all I'll have to be patient and wait for a new one! Got yet more Library reservations to collect so my own unread pile isn't getting any smaller yet, I've just started Strong Poison by Dorothy L Sayers on my Kobo. I've never read any of her books but thought I'd give one a try. Enjoying it so far.
I have all the Harry Hole ones (bought very cheaply from The Book People), then will look out for the stand alone ones, I get a bit compulsive when I find a series like this and would read them all back to back (and do nothing else:eek:), so I am reading 1 Jo Nesbo and then something else from the bookcase.
OH and I have been enjoying watching The Shetland detective series on TV as we both enjoyed all the books by Ann Cleeve, trouble is I really want to visit Orkney and Fairisle now!The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
I'm not a newbie to these boards, but I've been a lurker! I want to get more involved in the forums, and with 30 books on my Kindle I thought I'd join to guys if I can?
Starting with book 1 tonight!
Welcome, welcome! Roll up and enjoy joining in! We look forward to hearing about what you have been reading whenever you get round to it.freebird07 wrote: »Hi everyone! Welcome to you, too, freebird! It's amazing how they add up when you start to look at it, isn't it?
Speaking of books, I have two Ian Rankin's and a Terry Pratchett to dispose of so I hope to do some damage this long weekend. I have also been having a MASSIVE declutter at my flat and have given untold numbers to the charity shop. The space is AMAZING! I just do not have enough words to tell you how good it feels! :TPlease call me 'Pickle'

Finished Giovanna Fletchers new book You're the One the I Want, was a goodreads freebie and isn't being released until May, I quite enjoyed it although found it a little bit juvenile in parts - which is either a reflection of the characters ages or a weakness in the writing, couldn't quite decide which!
Gave it to my sister who is away this weekend on a friends Hen Do as if she doesn't like it she can give it to one of the other girls. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

finished the secrets of the titanic, it was a bit of a chick lit with some very 'flowery language used to describe some of the love scenes, but some likable characters and some dislikeable ones.
its already gone to the local CS along with a few cookbooks i culled from my shelves.
going to start Sea Glass by Anita Shreve nextSPC~12 ot 124

I am rubbish - I bought a new book this week. I'm trying to justify it in that it wasn't a 'real' book - it was in fact a copy of The Naughtiest Girl by Enid Blyton which I used to love as a kid and it was really cheap... Am I justifying it... I don't really think so... :S
On the other hand I am currently reading Harvesting the Heart (Jodi Picoult) which I bought over a year ago and haven't gotten around to reading yet.Save in 2014 Challenge: #193 £4,197.70/£50000 -
Hi all
Looking back I can't believe it is over a month since I last posted on here, but I have been keeping up with the thread.
Lot's of great books people have read and some excellent recommendations. I am bad for seeing one I may be interested in and then going to check if it's in my stash - a good way of making me read the books I have in my stash. If I don't have it I add it to a wish list so if I do manage to read all my books then these will be the ones I want to read next.
Anyway enough drivell, I have read the following since I last posted;
The Perks of being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky - not something I would normally read but one on my book club reads so I had a go. Not sure I liked it but then again I think it's a bit of a teen book and I am well past my teens lol.
Debt and the Doormat - Laura Barnard - found this one very funny and read it in one day as it was so addictive. Haven't got the sequal but it's on my wishlist and watching kindle store for it to become cheap!!
Let them eat cake - Sandra Byrd. Again I enjoyed this one but maybe a bit to 'churchy' for me. I have the two sequels to read but have decided I will read others in between otherwise it may become a bit much for me,
Currently reading My Own Story by Emeline Pankhurst which is really interesting. Hopefully I will finish that this month. My target is to read 25 books this year I have in my stash and I am at 7 already so hopefully that will be achievable. I have a target of 36 books as part of my book club and have managed 9 so that's needing a bit more work.0 -
I've put 3 books into the CS bag since Friday. Read them then in they went. I'd been looking for them for years since I left school, and found them in a charity shop last week. I bought them there and then as God knows when I would have found them again lol.
Admittedly they weren't long books, in fact they were old novels I'd read in school and always wanted to read them again as I realised I never appreciated them the first time round. And the other one, I've always heard about in school but our class never read it.
That one was Roll of Thunder hear my cry, never read it before and OMG it was brilliant!
The other 2 were Z for Zachariah and Carrie's War.
Had each book read in a day and they are now back in the CS bag ready to go again. However my hubby has pointed out that I should keep them seeing as it took me this long to find them, and our own children might enjoy them one day also. So they might get a reprieve and put safely away for that very reason.
My hubby doesn't often suggest keeping things as they can be replaced usually, so when he says to keep something there's usually good reasoning behind it lol.
Today I have already made a start on reading my Poirot books, so they'll be going next.Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -
Finished The Woman who went to bed for a year today, Sue Townsend. I was reading it until silly o'clock this morning, but eventually had to give in and sleep. I had wanted to read it for ages and came across it in Oxfam shop the morning after hearing of Sue Townsend's death!
Not sure about a year, but a week in bed rather appeals:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
