I have discovered a great new app on my phone - book pace. Its making me read more than i usually would. You put in the book you're reading and a date to start and finish - it then tells you how many pages you need to read each day and if you're on target or not. It has made me keep picking up the book I'm reading thinking just one more chapter and I'll be ahead of schedule! No more buying books Books in 2016 = 20.
Target for 2018 = 7/21
No more buying DVDs ? 2018 target 27/52

i do a similar thing with the goodreads book challenge, i like to stay ahead of shedule on my amount of books ive chosen for the year. but with that you just have an amount of books the number of pages doesnt really come into it.
really enjoying the shepherds song, its very 'Godly' - a lady writes the 23 psalm out for her teenage son, who then has a huge row with her about pushing her religion down his throat, he stuffs the psalm into his coat pocket and storms off to college she goes off to do her days chores which includes taking sons coat to the dry cleaners on the way home she is involved in a really bad car crash and is left fighting for her life, as she drifts into unconsciousness she prays that her life will make make or have made a difference. The snow continues to fall heavily so the dry cleaners 'borrows' the coat she left deciding to return it the next day walking home in the snow and feeling very alone he finds the paper and reads the psalm finding comfort in its message. He meets someone and the psalm travels on the story follows the psalm written with love and prayer in each line as it travels the world bringing comfort and making changes to the lives it crosses.SPC~12 ot 124

Forgive me if it has already been mentioned, but my household (current & parents') suffers from "tsundoku" - the act of leaving a book unread after buying it, typically piled up together with other such unread books.
Once we'd found the word, my mother was startled to see Dad print several neat labels with it, identifying the piles he was planning to get around to rathwer than piles awaiting more bookcasing. It's become a very popular gift to friends, who also suffer....0 -
thanks digforvictory, i didnt even know there was a word for it. i used to be really terrible, id buy books because i liked the covers or because i thought it was one every home should have and they just seemed to pile up. then once i did start reading and found so much pleasure in it i was keeping the books so the problem got even worse. Now unless its an absolute keeper (Philippa Gregory, Mitch Albom and the book thief fall into this category) i take more pleasure from passing them i believing that a book was made to be read not to sit on a shelf somewhere gathering dust. I still have a huge amount of books to get through but now as i read them i pass them on to other who i think will enjoy them. Afterall there are so many brilliant books out there i very much doubt i will read the same ones again.SPC~12 ot 124

Hiya everyone. Newbie here. I am the same, there are so many books I have piled up to read. When I left uni in April I was so looking forward to having more time to read for pleasure...how wrong I was, the only thing I seem to have had time for is to work more!
I have a long haul flight next month so I'm going to take 3 with me then and I'm also doing a book challenge on GoodReads and set myself a target of 12 a year. Sounds so few I know and makes my inner bookworm squirm but I work 2 jobs and time just seems to run away from me.0 -
Hi there, another newbie here. Is it OK if I join in on this challenge also? I have far too many books that I have bought and never read, need to get my pile down to an acceptable level.0

I'm currently reading The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver, I've seen the film and saw this book at a car boot sale not long ago for 25p so picked it up. Have to say I'm really enjoying it!0
