Thank you Pickle, I am swapping the chair for a suitably comfy bed with a large and squishy pile of pillows, a mug of tea (will pass on biccies as I am still full from supper LOL) and will try a few more pages of Winter in Madrid. Night night:D

  • Hello everyone, hope you've had a good week? Ready to start all over again?

Glad to say that I have finished my first book of 2014. Touchstone by Laurie R King. Not bad, certainly picked up the pace towards the end.

Now on to another of hers called 'Bones of Paris', only just started it, so will tell you more about it next week. :)

    Hello fellow bookworms!

I have been naughty and spent all day reading - and finishing - Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.

Alas, I am still more like Bridget than any sane human should wish to admit, but I laughed, nearly cried and then laughed again. The Bridget magic was there all again, except for the big knickers.

If you have read the other two and liked them, get hold of a copy ASAP. You won't be disappointed.

And now, perhaps I will get round to reading a book that I have actually bought. This stash won't read itself...

I have between 20 - 30 unread books of my own plus as many reservations at my local library as they allow and I still find myself tempted to buy more!. Just finished Argo which was a freebie with the Mirror Book Club and enjoyed it even though its not my normal read and I'm about to start Dorothy Koomsons new book, Flavours of Love ( from the Library). I'm also awaiting delivery of a Kobo Touch ( 29.99 thanks MSE for the link) so that will be even more temptation to read.

  • I have had another two books adding to the reading list... The Marriage House for me and my fiance to read through as we prepare for our upcoming marriage.

Also popped into Prospect and used a 99p credit note and got hold of The Host by Stephanie Meyer.

Both were 'free' to me, so that's allowed.

I am soooo glad it's not just me! My OH calls me a 'book snob' as I flatly refuse to even consider a Kindle. For me the enjoyment of a book is in the crisp pages, the newness (although I will read shabby, preloved books too) and of course the SMELL. I always smell a book and some smell absolutely divine. I just thought it was me being weird :rotfl:

I am trying not to buy any more books as had a recent lapse in Waterstones when I went to buy my brother the Viz annual for Christmas. Also had a bit of a lapse on Amazon so have approximately 10 or so books to read. Just finished 'Gone Girl' which was very good(kept me guessing until the end) and have passed that onto my mum. Did buy 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' for 30p in a charity shop the other day, too but not beating myself up too much about that one!

So - hello to all you lovely fellow book lover/sniffers - thanks for making my day :j

haha - I always thought I was weird as well - well, other people seem to think I am but I can read preloved books...they just don't feel as good you know? Though I do LOVE the smell of really really old books, that musty/musky smell?! :rotfl: I can smell that all day long...Indeed I am weird!
I forgot to say can I join this thread please in my last post?
I finished reading the siren and the second in the series, The angel, Now I'm onto the 3rd book - The Prince, All by Tiffany Reisz. I also forgot to add a disclaimer that if you offended easily, these books might not be ones you want to add to your must read list :rotfl:

Finished Goddess of spring by PC Cast. I nice read and an interesting twist to the Hades/ Persephone myth.

Now I am going to start her Divine by Blood book which is the last part of her Goddess of the Partholon trilogy ( part of me hopes she will sneak another one in, though then it wouldn't be a trilogy I suppose :undecided

Both of these books are library books i picked up at the start of the year but the real test will be if i can resist picking up some more when I return them:o

  • I have now finished reading Bridget Jones' Diary and am unfortunately going to attempt to finish LOTR fellowship of The Ring

Thanks for the recommendation of The new Bridget Jones instalment Pickle. I have it on my Kindle...but think I'll reread The Edge of Reason first so I've read them all in order.

At least reading LOTR I shouldn't have any trouble nodding off...just hope it doesn't lead me to miss my bus stop. Third time lucky! I will finish it this time!

  • Hi guys - haven't been on here for ages but thought I'd share that I did it! Just before Christmas I read everything on my to read pile! With the books I got for Christmas and a shopping spree in a charity shop last weekend (all books were 25p) I've now got nine books on my to read list, which should see me through to the big annual book fair I go to every February.

Fellowship of the Ring could take a while. My bus was slow yesterday so I could have read loads...but after 10 pages I'd nearly dropped it on the floor nodding off twice so I gave up! Fortunately not starting from the beginning again...didn't see the point really as I've read that bit twice already!
