Are you hoping to catch the film release that's out soon?
Yes planning to go and see it with my mum when it comes out as she has already read the book and enjoyed it. It's partly what is motivating me to get it read quickly but haven't read anything the last couple of days as back to work and been to tired at night. Hopefully get some done tonight.0 -
got 2 books back from my mum that i'd read and lent her and found two that id bought to turn into bags but now its come down to it i really cant bear to rip the pages out of a book so im going to donate all 4 to the shelf at the drs so they can be read and enjoyed.
had a bit of a tidy on my bookshelf and have made a stack of 23 (ive already got 2 ive started) so my goal is to read these 25 this year and let them go.
whether i actually manage to avoid adding any to the shelf in the coming year is another matter entirely.SPC~12 ot 124

hope you both enjoy it as much as i did.
The Book Thief, one of my best books ever.
But I lent it to someone and never got it back, which is a shame, as I would like to re-read it. I hate it when people don't give things back
I generally wait for films to go onto Sky, but I might go and see the film at the cinemaEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Hi everyone!
Happy New Year!I was stuck in bad weather in the middle of nowhere so in a fortnight I managed to read Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer and Empress Dowager Cixi: The Concubine Who Launched Modern China by Jung Chang.
Well, in Breaking Dawn something actually happened, so at least I've got the Twighlight quartet out of the way. The book about Cixi was surprisingly great - I thoroughly recommend it to anyone with an interest in Chinese history or world or modern history.
When I had finished with those at the end of last year, I read the following to kick the year off:
The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel-Shinn
Lemons: Recipes and Remedies by Sara Birford.
This means that I hit my target of reading 25 books last year! :j
This year I have set myself the same target again. I'm two down already, but I have some absolute breeze blocks on my shelves as well, so I'm sure it won't be so easy going the whole time.
Best of luck everyone! Please call me 'Pickle'

Really enjoying Goddess of Spring so far and a nice flow to the writing which makes it a nice read but haven't had much time to read this past week so taking me far too long to finish the book and move on to the next.Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. I've come to make a confession. I was in Mr T today and they had The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult in paperback on offer (£3) so I picked it up. I've wanted it since it came out in HB but I often have books with me to read on the bus and I can't cart a HB book around. If it had been full price I would have waited but it wasn't!
Currently reading Bridget Jone's Diary as a bit of light relief before finishing LOTR and Treasure Island. I've been managing roughly 1 month per day of the diary so have got to the beginning of July. I could probably have read more today in the time I had but my concentration was off and I kept reading the same line twice!!*2014 £365/365days - £52/£365* *20p Savers club #17 £12.00/£50*

Hello, I have read through the whole thread and have a long list of books that I now want to read.
When OH and I sold up and moved house, after being in the same one for 30 years, just over 2 years ago, I was completely ruthless and culled virtually all my fiction and reduced the number of NF drastically too. I have loved reading ever since I was allowed my first ever library book at infants school almost 60 years ago, I especially like crime, historic settings and adventure books. I have not read what one might call current fiction for a few years and had no idea, who wrote what (yes I knew all the names of the award winners etc, but not their genre).
In the last 6 months I have read all the Anne Cleeves novels, just finished the last of the Matthew Shardlake stories and bought OH several Phillipa Gregory after watching The White Queen, so we are just about to swap over. I am half way through Winter in Madrid, but not finding it too easy.
I consider myself well and truly led astray by you lovely people here, this week I have bought (CS) The Other Boleyn Girl, The Time Traveller's Wife and borrowed from library Island House by Posie Graeme-Evans and The Daughter of Time, ordered The Redbreast (library) and sruggled to leave at least 3 others behind in charity shop this morning. Housework about to slip even further down the list I think.
I hope you don't mind if I drop in now and then.:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
