anyone read Stephen King's novel - 11.22.63? hired it from the library but its the size of a couple of house bricks so a bit put off unless I know its going to be a really good read?

Just de-lurking to say I loved it! I'm a Stephen King fan anyway, but would say this is up with his best.

The art of being a brilliant teacher by Gary Toward, Chris Henley and Andy Cope
it is aimed at teachers but im not one and im finding it a riveting read. its easy to read, funny and full of ideas. ive already bought a second copy but that is a christmas present for a teacher friend

  • I'm just in the middle of reading a book called 'Hannah's Gift' Probably one I've got from my mum to read. it's one of those non-fiction type novels about a little girl with cancer. It's a lovely book but I've been almost in tears on the bus a couple of times already and Hannah is still alive. I imagine I'll cry properly as I get further into the book. I've also read an amusing little book of incorrect quiz answers which had me giggling away to myself. Trying to bump up the number of books I've read this year before the holidays hit!
I have just bought 4 more books but they're all baking books and I'm trying to get into baking a bit more so I'm allowing myself that little treat :)

  • I will never succeed in this Challenge which I am doomed to fail. Books to read in total of 512,minus key Law Texts which I am adding as part of my DIY Law School Programme, added despite horrendously depressing scene in Legal Welfare Rights of which I am both ignorant and a Beginner.
Surely this Challenge is 'put a gap in it why don't ya and stop hoarding books against bad days'.?
love and best wishes to everyone here and merry christmas allxxx

  • I'm proudly on my 4th 'to read' out of the 9 I brought to/bought at uni! Not buying any more until they're all done :)

    Left on the list -
Ulysses (keep starting this and getting bored, I think it's getting two more chances then it's being CS'd!)
    The Suspicions of Mr Whicher
    The Book Thief
    Nella's Last War

I've finished Atonement (hated it, it's only still in my room because one of my housemates wants to borrow it and I forgot to give it to her before she went for Christmas), Engleby (loved the book, hated the last chapter), The House at Riverton (not great, but not as bad as Atonement) and I'm currently reading The Life of Pi (so far, bit slow but I seem to be getting through it rather quickly).

I have a few 'Wants!' on my list, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Looking for Alaska, Notes on a Scandal, The Wasp Factory... I only buy books in charity shops and I'm getting a Kindle for Christmas (which I will be trying to buy only cheap books on) so it'll be slow going!

That's just at uni. God knows how many books I have at home that I haven't read or even looked at in years. At least 2 bookcases full...

Amazon have this on offer for the Kindle for 20p

Not really encouraging anyone to buy, surely it doesn't count as it is a 'virtual' book :p
