I agree Cherryprint, was quite 'anti' ereaders at first but now wouldn't be without mine, although when I'm home I still much prefer a real book.

Finished a couple of pretty bad ebooks and am still working through the other book I'm reading at home, amazing how much more time I have when I don't spend my evenings studying!

    Quick update for you all.

I've just finished reading George RR Martin's A Dance with Dragons. I've waited for the book for four years and to be honest was a tad disapppointed. It's beautifully written, but for 950-odd pages, nothing much happened and after reading all those pages I feel like the story hasn't moved on much.

While reading Dance with Dragons I've also read three other books:

Birds Beasts and Relatives by Gerald Durrell - I found it in a charity shop a while back and really enjoyed it.

Old Herbaceous by Reginald Arkell - I also found this in a charity shop a while back and thought it was a lovely little read. My sister is borrowing it now!

The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham - I love this book and my parents bought it for me for Christmas, so it's been waiting to be read for a while.

So very pleased to have ticked three more books off my too read list. I'm now reading the Memory Artists by Jeffery Moore. I found this in Poundland last summer and thought it was high time I read it. It's good so far but a bit depressing!
  • scubaangel - I'm just finishing my paperback book and decided to get back into e-books for the first time since I've come back from my travels. I was despairing a bit because I have books in all sorts of formats from various formats. I googled it though and found something really helpful. Not sure if this would help you but it's called Calibre and it's basically a programme that helps you sort your e-book files and formats and organise everything. I now have my virtual library sorted and this makes me feel at peace! :rotfl:I'll still be going through my paper books too when I'm home.

cactuspotty - love The Day of the Triffids! John Wyndham rocks. I read some Gerald Durrell books when I was younger, but might borrow some at my parents' house next time - thanks for the tip ;)

I'm not sure which book I'm going to read next but I'm geekily excited about choosing something from my e-reader. Trying hard not to buy a new e-reader cover...

  • Just finished reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, really enjoyed it. I have the rest of the trilogy to read too. Have now started a Margaret Attwood book called the Handmaids Tale as it is this months book club book, am about half way through and didn't like it all to start with but as I persevere it is really starting to grip me. It reminds me very much of 1984 :D

After that I have the Hovel in the Hills to read which has kindly been lent to me by another MSEer which I am looking forward to :o

I caved when I logged on to Amazon and there was a John Connelly book brand new for £1.99 delivered and the reviews were really good so I have bought that, it is supposed to be a great thriller/horror and is the first in a series of about 8 books so I have written the rest down in case I see any at the car boot

I remember reading the Handmaids Tale as part of my A-Levels, it's 'bundled' with 1984 due to their similarities. Finished a couple more ebooks on the Kindle and The Third Secret, nothing that I'd particularly recommend and the book is now listed on greenmet.

Cherry I know of calibre but so far haven't needed to use it, pretty much all of my ebooks are from amazon as freebies and the handful which weren't were emailed to me by a friend and were kindle ready. I'm sure if I even exhaust the freebies list I'll start looking at downloads I need to convert though.

  • Managed to only buy one book from the car boot today which is good for me, One Day which I have heard good reviews about :)

  • Subaangel and Itsadogslife - I read The Handmaid's Tale for A Level too :) It's so dark, I love it! This reminds me that I actually started another Margaret Atwood book - The Blind Assassin - before I went away. I had just started to get into it before I had to leave the country and leave it behind. So I think I will actually make that my next book, and will probably start it tomorrow.

Also I'm sure everyone's been talking about The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo on here (I haven't gone back and read all the posts), but those books are fantastic and the series gets better as you go through, I think. Book 3 will blow your mind! :D

I've been asking for a few books for my birthday, because it doesn't count if other people buy them for me!:j

Ok. I've been putting it off but I have to confess to you all.

I did have a little ebay session last week and bought books 2, 3 and 4 from the twilight series. I did shop around and bought the cheapest ones available that were still a decent condition. I spent £7.43 on all 3 inc postage, and managed to get one for 1p (why do people bother at that price?) so not too bad?

I finished the first one which was really good and have now started another random book off my shelf 'A dedicated man' by Peter Robinson. It is ok but I'm not doing a good job of getting into it really so possibly not doing it justice as I just want to finish it to start the next twilight :o

Hope everyone elses reading is going to plan. Its a horrid day today so maybe I will sit and read for a while

  • Observer - don't worry, the Twilight books are worth a purchase, and you did well to shop around. I've re-read mind more times than I should mention (slight addict actually), so if you read yours again, they will be even better value for money :)

I'm getting on really well with The Blind Assassin - it's so well written and it's gripped me already! I love being gripped by a book! It has a dark edge to it at the beginning that makes me want to read it all day. Trying to save it for my daily commute!
