Hello Pickle! Haha yes we are probably all hoarders!
Lol, I think I just had an issue with buying stuff in the past that I don't need. This applies to all areas of my life (as you can probably work out from my signature :rotfl:). With clothes I'm trying the capsule wardrobe approach so I actually have the clothes in my wardrobe I *need* for my life, rather than just impulse buying pretty party dresses I won't wear, etc. I'm selling everything I don't wear on ebay. This applies to my beautiful shoes that I haven't worn out because they hurt my feet, etc!
As for books..I've been a victim of the old 3 for 2 at Waterstones in the past, etc. This has lead me to accumulate more books than I have had time to read...so no more! Right, off to read more of The Blind Assassin...before 7am on a Sunday. Wish I could learn to lie inNot buying any more 1.)books 2.)toiletries, esp. LUSH! 3.)stationery, unless absolutely necessary!0 -
Oh Cherryprint - I feel your pain: particularly with regard to party dresses!

I just decided to charge up my Kindle and download any new freebies I've "bought" erm yes there are now obviously not 700+ books on there....honestly.....
Good job I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks! It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Hi.
Just thought I'd share this with you all - this is today's quote off my google home page :The greatest gift is a passion for reading. It is cheap, it
consoles, it distracts, it excites, it gives you knowledge of
the world and experience of a wide kind. It is a moral illumination.

For my birthday recently I got On the Road by Jack Kerouac so I did well not to give in and buy it myself ()
Now I'm just deciding how to spend an Amazon voucher I've been given. I love real books and books are one thing I won't really get rid of if I really like them. As I live in a small space and am decluttering on a massive scale..I'm wondering if I should use my Amazon voucher for books or for something else. Any ideas for good value/useful things to buy on Amazon?
I've also decided to make a cover for my e-reader instead of buying one, because in the shops they cost about £20!Not buying any more 1.)books 2.)toiletries, esp. LUSH! 3.)stationery, unless absolutely necessary!0 -

If you don't know what you want now, and have enough to read in the meantime, why not save the voucher until you REALLY want something, then you don't have to feel guilty?

I've read 'A Cold Head' by Ian Rankin.
It's only small - 107 pages - but it's still an individually bound book, so it counts for me!
Tis good...it's a very small and simply written as it's designed to get people who haven't read for ages to get back into reading, but the story is still pretty darn good. Please call me 'Pickle'

I haven't been on here for ages as was away on holiday at the end of July and have had work and family problems to deal with since.
I won't give you all an exhaustive list of what I've been reading as it's been a lot, but I'm currently reading a lovely book called "Howard's End is on the landing" by Susan Hill. It's all about how she realised that her life as a novelist and publisher means that she has a houseful of books she's never read, so she vowed not to buy any for a year and just read those she already had.
She intersperses her thoughts on what she's reading with stories about how she met some world-famous authors and how this influenced what she thinks of their books. I'm really enjoying it.
Have also just finished one I got to review from Waterstone's "All That I Am" which is about German political refugees coming to Britain in the early 1930s to try to warn the world about the Nazi regime. Unlike many books about the period it has lots of women in it as main characters so is more interesting than typical war novels. I enjoyed it, but found it took a little bit of getting into.
Still going through the bookshelves at home rather than buying books, which is leading me to read some very odd things that I have no idea why we have a copy of.0 -
Ooh! "Howard's End is on the Landing" sounds really interesting - and particuary relevent to this discussion!
I've just finished The Blind Assassin. Gosh. It was gripping, but I'm disappointed by the ending. It's very well written, but I would have cut out a few of the sub-plots and made the ending more emotional somehow.
And for my next book...a friend of mine has written his first novel and has printed and bound a copy for me to read and' red pen'. I'm super excited by this, and if he keeps this up, I may never have to buy a book again! :money:Lol.Not buying any more 1.)books 2.)toiletries, esp.
