  • why helllooo observer - i always find it weird 'bumping into' people i 'know' who share other passions.

sadly I won't pick up a book until I go back to work in November as the only time I get to read is on the tram/ lunch. (apart from my toilet book...... go on admit it ..... we all have one!!!)

I shamefully admit I have also bought books in the past cause they have shiny covers!!

I have now got the whole twilight set (for the grand price of £6 - 2 brand new woopsies in WHSmith, 2 second hand off a carboot the other day)...... have watched first film and didn't rate it yet my friends day to ignore that and crack on with the books cause they are fab..... I am dubious.

I LOVVEEEEE Sophie Kinsella (have and read all of hers) - starting to collect the Madaline Wickim ones but not started reading them yet.

Decided this year I wanted the discworld collection (as I never had any as a child) so over the last 8 months I have bargain buyed from boot sales/ charity shops and ebay with a lovelllyyy friend on another thread raiding her childs room for ones they didn't want and sending them to me ........ so that s urmmm **cough cough** about 30 books to read.

Have a few 'mummy' books.... I do like stories I can relate too.

Also like real life (or based on real life) stories and autobiographies.

.........ok ok ok I'm off to count them all now.........80 (ish) including the twilight/ discworld.

A friend at work has lent me a load of the "number 1 detective agency" books but i don't think they're my cup of tea so gonna give them back when I go back to work after mat leave.

Am not a fan of e-books at all.

    Hi Chicky,

Ok....ummm... what is discworld??? Never heard of them!!

I really liked the twilight film, thought that was the best of the three. My friends and I watched them all on consecutive nights on a girly holiday a few months ago which is why I bought the books. Im not that sure that if you didn't like the film you will like the books? But u never know so give it a go. They are pretty easy reads, especially if you have an idea of the story line.

I've read quite a few sohie kinsella ones and love them but I'm not really into that type of books at the moment - a BIG fan of Lee child mostly at present so the twilight books are really just a break between reading those. Lee has a new one out in a few weeks but it got difficult to choose which I wanted to read next, so I am reading them in order at the moment so won't be buying the new one straight away.

I think I have about 20 on the 'to read' pile at the mo - ok not that many but I can't really fit many more on the shelf lol!!

I'm also not keen on the no 1 detective books - tried reading one as my mum has loads of them, but just not my thing so gave up.

  • Discworld is a series by Terry Pratchett - he realease a new one at least once a year (i think i have most recent 3 still needed to buy). They are verry funny (well the 2 I've read so far and written very much in a "children will read and enjoy, adults will read and understand the jokes" way .... IYSWIM.

3 have been made into fantastic films which is what bit me - The Hogfather, Going Postal and The Colour Of Magic.

and here's an extract from Night Watch

  • Well done everyone, you're all doing so well! Hi to all the new people too :)

Ladsmadd - you're such a bargain hunter, I need to go shopping with you! No wonder you have so many unread books. :money:

I thought for a while about how to best use my Amazon voucher and I've ordered six new books that I *really* want that have been on my list for a while. One of them is Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire book 1), which was only £1.99.

So I am adding to my unread book collection but the voucher was a present so it doesn't count!
Not buying any more 1.)books 2.)toiletries, esp. LUSH! 3.)stationery, unless absolutely necessary!

Hi all - I've been pretty quiet on the reading for pleasure front lately, but I've gone back to Bad Science by Ben Goldacre and this time I WILL finish it (seriously, if you knew how many times I've renewed it from the library, you wouldn't believe me).

    I will finish it. I will. I will, I will, I will, I will!

  • Hi folks, am back from my holiday, and made full use of my kindle while I was there - got through not far short of thirty ebooks, although I did target the shorter ones in the vague hopes of starting to bring my unread books total down somewhat, not really worked it has to be said as to be said since there are still over 700 on there!
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

I know :o but as they're all freebies I reckon it's saved me a small fortune compared to buying books or mags over the last 9 months - total convert to ereaders although I will never let it replace real books just means I'll be more selective about what I do buy when I work through the unread ones on the shelf.
