To add to my post above, finished this afternoon Fear the Worst by Linwood Barclay. Thats all of his books read until his new book (The Accident) comes out in September. Think of all the books i have read of his that I enjoyed Never look away the most.
Not sure what to read next. Think I might start Dead Man's Grip by Peter James
Just wanted to ask if you had read the 'quick read' by Linwood Barclay called Clouded Vision? I only spotted it yesterday for £1.59 from Watersones website (free delivery) and I can't wait for it to arrive.
Also, Linwood Barclay is in UK next week at the Harrogate Crime & Thriller festival. Details on Linwood's website. Wish I could have gone!DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Hi guys - don't know how good I'm going to be at this, but I'd like to join you all. I've got a huge pile of books under my bed waiting to be read, as well as an even bigger pile I inherited from a friend who moved abroad and couldn't take his book collection with him!
I've been lurking for a while, but can join up now because I've been waiting for the new George RR Martin book to come out! Bought it yesterday, so ready to take up the challenge. However, I have got a book on pre-order with Amazon which I'm not going to count!
I'm planning a book clearout at the weekend of ones I've read but will not read again, and I've already listed some on ReaditSwapit.
So, I'm cactuspotty. I'm addicted to books but pledge to not buy any more books until I've read the ones I've already bought.0 -

Looks like I've another coming in as I won a goodreads giveaway. But on the upside I've got through another 8 ebooks on the kindle, I won't count the number of ebooks waiting to be downloaded to it though, lol. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Only one "in" to report over the past couple of weeks - a book to review through the Waterstone's loyalty card scheme, but can't remember what it's called...obviously made a big impression, lol!
Plenty to add to the "out" pile though -
Private Lives by Tasmina Perry (got this to review through Real Readers) - summer bonkbusters aren't usually my kind of thing, but I really enjoyed this one as it also had a murder mystery going on and some very topical stuff about privacy injunctions. Would be good to read on holiday though the paperback is massive - I think it comes out next week.
Also read The Paris Wife by Paula McLain (another freebie, from Virago Press this time). Really enjoyed this one, it's a novel about Ernest Hemingway's first wife and how their marriage coped with living the good life in Paris in the 1920s with other ex-pat writers.
And Signed, Mata Hari by Yannick Murphy (a Poundland bargain) - a novel about the dancer and spy Mata Hari. Thought it was great and very sad at times. Made me want to find out how much of it was true.
Plus Ghastly Business by Louise Levene (a competition prize). A naive young girl in 1920s London goes to work for a renowned pathologist at a time when a series of grisly murders are gripping the nation. Not as horrible as it sounds, in fact very funny at times and sad at others.
And another handful of books which were ok, but I won't bore you with.
Am really enjoying my Kindle - had to do a longish train journey for work the other day and found it great - plus have discovered I can download a load of French novels for free so will be able to make shelf space by getting rid of most of the French books I kept after finishing my degree many years ago. Could never bring myself to get rid in case I wanted to read them again (though this is probably unlikely. most of them being very long 19th century classics which have sat untouched for the last 20-odd years) but being able to put them on my Kindle is the ideal solution.
As a couple of other people also said, I'm more and more using GoodReads to log what I've read and what I think of it. At the moment I have no GoodReads "friends" (sniff!) so if anyone would like a friend drop me a pm and I'll give you the username I use on that site so we can join up.0 -
Hi guys - just a quick update since joining the fold last week!
I've sorted through all my books and had a ruthless sort out. Any I'm definitely not going to read again have been listed on ReaditSwapit or are on their way to a charity shop.
I've got 23 books to read, but that does not include the books I was given by a friend when he moved abroad.
I'm currently reading two books. A Dance With Dragons by George RR Martin. I'm about 300 pages in and enjoying it. Because it's too big to take on my commute, I'm also re-reading Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham, which is excellent.
Thanks to the suggestions here, I've transferred my book journal, which goes back to 2009, onto GoodReads. My 23 to-reads are also on there!0 -

Hello...I have...a book buying addiction
I've promised myself I won't buy any more books until I've read the ones I have (I have plenty of unread books). The trouble is that I'm desperate to read On the Road by Jack Kerouac (it's been on my must read list for a while)...and the film of the book is coming out soon and I *have* to read books before I watch the film and...and..I want to buy it
Please help
<Edit> - Just checked the film's release date and it's not until 2012...lol...so I'm just going to ask for it for my birthday and in the meantime read all the books I *do* have. Not buying any more 1.)books 2.)toiletries, esp. LUSH! 3.)stationery, unless absolutely necessary!0
