Okay, confession time
, I bought a book for a course I needed. A rather expensive book. It wasn't vital, but it was useful. So July is going to be a new start.
I am such a compulsive book buyer, that I have decided that I am going to allow myself a little cheat, instead of not buying any books, I have some money on a book token giftcard I recieved so I am only going to let myself buy books using the remaining money the card that are useful for my work.
Do you think that sounds ok? Or is it a total cheat?0 -
I think we all have our little get out clauses - at the moment mine is the Times vouchers! 99p for a book (as I generally get a copy of the supplement that the voucher is in left at work).
Although I really do need to start reading the physical books again instead of automatically reaching for my Kindle. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

I finished No time for Goodbye by Linwood Barclay yesterday. A great read !!
eta one down, hundreds to go....
To add to my post above, finished this afternoon Fear the Worst by Linwood Barclay. Thats all of his books read until his new book (The Accident) comes out in September. Think of all the books i have read of his that I enjoyed Never look away the most.
Not sure what to read next. Think I might start Dead Man's Grip by Peter James0 -
I've started to actually make use of goodreads in an attempt to keep track of just how much I read on the Kindle - have been using the andriod app to keep upto date at work and been trying to work through the books on there to my 'to read' list, already deleted a couple after reading some of the reviews so fingers crossed I'll start to see a reduction of the numbers sat on it soon.
Just wondering is there a MSE group on there? It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

finished strange fits of passion by anita shreve, was frustrated by the ending as it was badly proof read and two pages were duplicated and randomly appeared in the book before they should have (as well as in their correct places) and i felt like a page had been missed out. i ended up reading one section three times to try and make it make sense. so ended up losing the flow of the story and getting anoyed with it.
not sure what im going to read next might slip back to something historicalSPC~12 ot 124

I don't know what to read first!! I was reading One Moment, One Morning by Sarah Rayner (only a couple of chapters in), have also read the first page of Dead Man's Grip by Peter James, have been lent Triptych by Karin Slaughter, again read about 5 pages, have hired from the library, Michael Connelly, The Reversal, Karin Slaughter - Genesis, Before I fall, Lauren Oliver, and This is How by M J Hyland. I also have reserved at the library Skippy Dies by Paul Murray !!! oh and thats not to mention the missing Jo Nesbo books I bought with my birthday money - all six of those to be read as well now!!
I got my hands on a kindle yesterday and really liked it. Was really tempted to order one but having spent my birthday money already, can't justify it at the moment and I am still not completely sure about them. I picked up 6 as new books in the charity shop today for £3. I wouldn't be able to do that if i had a kindle and since i have hundreds and hundreds of tree books to read, I can't justify buying more or buying kindle books to read when I have them in tree format which I know I would be tempted to do. I know there are free books you can get but I don't want to add to many books to my reading list.... What do fellow peeps think about e-readers? for or against ?0 -
I'm firmly for but then I adore my Kindle as it's saved me from buying mags when I'm on the train and I hate carrying books around as they get battered by living in my handbag.
Equally having it has meant that I'm not making any progress on reading my tree format books and keep downloading all the freebies meaning the backlog on it has got vaguely crazy! It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Finished Tripwire (Lee Child). I'm reading in order and this another good one that I enjoyed and had a nice twist at the end. Have decided to read Twilight next - borrowed from my sister I have seenthe films but not read the books. Only read first few chapters but really good so far. What do fellow peeps think about e-readers? for or against ?
My dad has a kindle and loves it but I am just not convinced. I very nearly bought one the other day but I don't really want one yet, I just love my books too much. I like being able to see pages, how far I have got in the book, flick back to remind myself who someone is - I don't want to do this digitally. I may well change my mind but presently I am not attracted enough to buy. I do see that it depends exactly what you want it for thou - for example I heard it is easier to get out of print books or french books for example digitally when you couldn't get a real life copy. I don't know how true that is but I have found one book on Amazon I want that is only available on Kindle and not as a book so maybe it is good???Challenge savings 2010-2016 £1564.60:j

Hi there,
Interesting reading the posts re kindles. I am toying with the idea of one but I do like the tactile feel of a book! I am also concerned that if we all go the electronic route it will be the death knell for libraries and accessibility to books for everyone. Hmm......!
Just finished Leaving the World bu Douglas Kennedy( from my TBR pile). He is one of my favourite authors but I struggled with the the first half of this. After that it really took off and I enjoyed it in the end!
Reading Resurrection Men by Ian Rankin ATM, (from library) I'm reading the Rebus ones in order, but I'm finding this one hard going. I keep waiting for the "hook" which will pull me in and keep me going to the end!
PS - Darkphaery - congratulations, lovely news about baby phaery!
you will always be rich enough to be generous.0
