Hi there,
Interesting reading the posts re kindles. I am toying with the idea of one but I do like the tactile feel of a book! I am also concerned that if we all go the electronic route it will be the death knell for libraries and accessibility to books for everyone. Hmm......
I disagree, there is def a place for both. The tactile feel of a book is one of the best things about them but I wouldn't be without my kindle now but there have been things I've read on the kindle which have made me want to read more by the author which I've been to the library to borrow. Plus there are some library services which have ebook lending, accessible to anyone even those outside of their traditional catchement areas.
Libraries in general need to move with the times, reading in general has been on the decline for years, I know I stopped visiting my local library back home when I'd read everything in there I was interested in and they never got new titles - if ereaders are encouraging people back in to books and reading then they need to offer the e-services to capitalise and prove that they're worth the money to keep open! It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Sorry, Scuba, I wasnt denying that there is def a place for both, it's just making the leap!
I wholeheartedly agree that anything that encourages people to read is to be encouraged. I was just trying to say that I'd hate to see our libraries threatened as I feel free access to books etc is very important. It's not everyone who can afford a kindle or ereader or indeed would want one. My parents, for example, dont have internet access and wouldnt know what to do with a kindle!
I am sorry that your library has run out of things of interest for you. In that regard we are very lucky here and have a fab library service. I think I've mentioned before that I use mine as a "free Amazon". I just order my choices on line and they email me when it's ready to pick up.

The library where I live now is much better, but the old one was a small fairly rural one, and the main one in town wasn't much better and it could take months to order things in.
Agree making the leap is slightly frightening, but I know I wouldn't go back now, if/when I ever get through all my currently downloaded ebooks I'll be trying out some of the elending services, but in the meantime I'm sticking with ordering more titles by new to me authors from the library when I run out of other things to read (and that list is ever growing, lol). It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

I would love to join please. I haven't counted my books but i know i have close to 100.
I would like to have disposed of 20 by the time i move out (November hopefully!) - I work at the hospital and they have a book sale book case for relatives that come and visit so i shall just put my books on there or give them to my mother.
I promise not to buy a book, get given them, or rent fiction books from the library in this time so i can crack on with getting this list down.
Afterwards to be frugal within living i shall use the library only unless i really want a book then i shall ask for them for Birthdays and Christmas...Currently doing the 100 day challenge, and trying to read all the books i own before buying any more challenge.

welcome to our book club Amy, dont be too hard on youirself if books come as gifts they dont count it just trying to resist buying them and adding to our stash that way also sometimes if there something you MUST READ its better to get it from the libary as a borrow than buying it and it becoming a permanent fixture on your bookcaseSPC~12 ot 124

Forgot to mention i am currently reading Harry Potter & The order of the phoenix. Is it shameful that i would be roughly the same age as harry now so should have grown up with it all but haven't read the full series yet?
Oh i am awful at books though - Seriously. I aquire them. Mum reads so frequent that whenever i visit i seem to go home with a carrier bag full each timex
