I made a bit of a dent in my unread list after 2 weeks on hols in the sunshine....

Gentlemen & Players by Joanne Harris (I'd give this one 10 claps if I was allowed, best book I have read and enjoyed in a long time)

A short history of tractors in Ukrainian by Marina Lewycka (odd title but a very enjoyable book)

Songs of the Humpback Whale by Jodi Picoult. I'm a huge fan of her books but didn't enjoy this one so much, it kept moving backwards and forwards in time confusing the hell out of me :rotfl:

Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby - this one got good reviews on Richard and Judy's book club but I felt it only really got going near the end of the book.

I'm now on The Abortionist's Daughter by Elisabeth Hyde which I have had for ages and so far I'm enjoying it :)

Ooh, thanks for the recommendation - I like Joanne Harris' books, havent read anything by her for ages. Glad you liked "the Tractors" I loved that, I can highly recommend her other two - " Two Caravans" & "We are All Made of Glue" :T

I really like Jodi P too, but some of her books are not as good as others. I've given up on R&J book club reads as sometimes I wonder if I'm reading the same book as often they dont live up to the reviews.
Have put your reads on my "to read list"

Currently reading "Thin Blue Smoke" by Doug Worgul - it's a great book, really enjoying it!

    Hello :T fellow book lovers

i have loved reading these posts. i have to confess I probably have over 500 books and at least 20% unread!

i fell in love with books aged 7, having not been able to read until then, I am now in my early forties.

i have two on the go at the mo.... The Spencers by Charles Spencer (Brother of Lady Di) which he has researched well if a little dry.

And Harry Potter - Half blood Prince in Preparation for Nov......

I have a wide taste from Biographys to modern Fiction, Historical Novels

I have promised my hubbie that i will read and try not to buy, but i did walk out of Hatchards in Picaddilly on my birthday with the new Phillipa Gregory and Diana Duchess of Devonshire..... signed well it had to be done I did leave the CJ Sansom behind.......;)

Is any one as nerdie as me and have a spreadsheet cataloguing their books? 24 fiction books read this year, not sure how many non fiction!

look forward to swaping reviews and ideas......

Elfen, The Green Mile is a STUNNING book! One my all time favourites (and don't ever be in the same room when I watch the film... soooooooob! It's one of only two film adaptations of Stephen King books that I think have worked and remained pretty much accurate to the book - the other being Misery, Kathy Bates IS Annie!).

I've now finished What Alice Forgot - I'd give it :T:T. Interesting concept that works at first but I found myself getting really ANGRY at the main character quite a lot in the middle. The end, without giving anything away for those who still have it to read, isn't what you'd think which is good. Nice not to see what's coming in the final few pages and to come away thinking.. "Hmmmm..." (in a good way).

Looking at my unreads, can't decide whether I want a crime thriller or a more chick-lit easy read (the ones I have are ones with a BIT more than "girl-friends-men-shopping-blah..." - can't stand those, but still, if I had to define them, would probably be sold in that department of the bookshop. Hopefully you know what i mean, Adele Parks, Jodi Picoult, Kate Long etc...).

Won't get much chance to start another book until next week anyhow so don't have to decide right now.

Haven't bought a book since I last posted so I'm doin' it right ladies (and gents!).

  • Just finished Kate Long, The Daughter Game, only :T:T. Started well, but didn't really enjoy it that much.

Now started Sophie Hannah 'The Other Half Lives'. Sounds interesting, but 550 pages, so may take some time.
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D
  • Finished Dewey the Small-Town Library Cat who Touched the World this morning - it's not the most stunning piece of literature ever written but if you love books and cats it's an enjoyable read. And if you've ever had a characterful cat that lived into old age but is no longer with us, get the tissues ready for the last couple of chapters  I'll give it three claps - :T:T:T

Can really reccomend A Cat Called Norton: The True Story of an Extraordinary Cat and his Imperfect Human by Peter Gethers for cat lovers, you need a box of tissues but is heartwarming, hoping to get the sequel for christmas........ then i really will need tissues as we have to say goodbye.

He travelled everywhere with Peter even on planes ! :T:T:T:T

I've just finished 'I Shall Wear Midnight' by Terry Pratchett.

It's good. I prefered it to a lot of the other Tiffany Aching books. I recommed to Pratchett fans and not alike.

    :T :T :T :T. (That's about 6 for most authors!)
