The drugs and stealing/lies will be linked for sure. I had also had a happy child hood and while we didnt have much money my parents would have walked hot coals for me (and still would) . I was heavily into the rave scene as a teenager and went on a 3 year drugs binge ( weed, speed, coke, acid, e's etc rather than heroin) where i cared little for myself nor my the feelings of my family or my friends. All i was interested in was where the next party was.

I put my family through absolute hell at the time, i stole money from them, from my grandparents and anyone else who left it lying around. I told constant lies, i was moody and nasty to anyone who tried to tell me i was doing damage to my family and friends.

When i think back to how i was i burn with shame :o and cant believe i put people through what i did and am so grateful that they didn't give up on me.

The point i am trying to make is that its possibly just hormones/immaturity and peer pressure behind this behaviour and as your son gets older he will "snap out of it "
