Problems with Abbey (Santander) debit cards this weekend?

I had my card decline twice this morning in Primark! Went over to the cashpoint, got a message that said there was an error with the transaction, so couldn't get any cash out.

I got home and tried to log on but you can't. When you try the phone lines it says there is a problem at the moment but doesn't say what it is!

Does anyone think we will get some sort of compensation for this? I drove 10 miles and back to town to visit Primark, also was unable to buy any shopping or petrol today.

What is the score on compo? What would have happened if for instance this had happened during the week when DD's would have come out of peoples accounts? Imagine if someone had to go to get some gas or electric on a key? What are they supposed to do? Freeze to death. I bet there is some little old lady's bricking it because they have no heating or electric. They have got a lot to answer for!!!:mad::mad:

I am absolutely FUMING to say the least.

Try to check my online banking at 10am to organise a few transfers... NO JOY

Went to sainsburys, went to cash point, contact card issuer... couldnt check balance or withdrew any money.

LUCKILY had some cash on my for my groceries..

Get home, call 0845 number from my mobile uses all my phone credit, i try to top up, it lets me? I CAN USE my card online....

Fill out email form to message abbey, get the form up, but then get error saying its down? SO WHY ALLOW ME TO FILL IN FORM!! ...

ANYWAYS i am at my witts ends trying to do my fiancial business..

I SHOULDNT feel the need to put money in another account 'in case'!!

PAYDAY 23rd december, i remember it well, MY WAGES APPEARED IN AT 1PM...

I WAS FUMING, as i had no money to do the christmas shop early and hit rush hour in the supermarket....

I am CONSIDERING switching banks now, HSBC seem quite reliable and they do automatic transfers which is a bonus!

SERIOUSLY i am not meant to get stressed due to my pregnancy BUT I AM LIVID

I'm that annoyed that I've just emailed Sky News to make sure this isn't just swept under the carpet. Thousands of people are going to be inconvenienced by this, and some people are going to be without food/heat. It's just not on!!!!

Just to add I am another it happened to this morning, My card declined twice, then hubby tried and his declined.
Asda kept our shopping so we could go and get some money out of our other abbey account.
walked 15 mins to an abbey cash point only to find this out of order as well.
Ended up drawing money out at barclays from our barclaycard.

This was at 10.30 this morning and asda nor I had known about there being a problem.
I thought my card must have been cloned as I knew I had money in the account.

Anyone else feel the total embarrassment of having your card declined at a busy checkout:o

Thank GOD my hubby is with another bank thats all im saying!!! JUST A PITY HES AT WORK WITH HIS BANK CARD i feel like a chocolate binge ha ha....
