check yours and see, if it is then i imagine vw dealers will scrimp and scrape just like any other when it comes to thier cost.

I doubt it is - my used Astra from a Skoda dealer  has a 12 month warranty underwritten by Skoda themselves not the dealer. (so I'd hope a Skoda had the same, and would assume a VW/etc did :D)

Aparrently I can have a Vauxhall garage work on the car if I need to :)

We are discussing new car warranties, used car warranties are a completely different ball game.;)

I dont really follow this please?

We go to great lengths to ensure that you are happy with your purchase.
That's why when you buy a new passenger car from an authorised Volkswagen retailer in the UK we'll provide a Factory Warranty to cover you against defects and repairs for the first three years. In addition, you'll receive:
    • A 2-year unlimited mileage manufacturers warranty
    • A further 1 year / 60,000 miles (whichever is soonest) retailer warranty.
This means you're covered for a total of 3 years or up to 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

That equates to a better version of the Ford Warranty, you have 2 years maker warranty ( as opposed to the Ford one year ) and the third year is effectively in the hands of a VW Dealer.

Its so unclear. First it says Factory Warranty to cover you for first three years. In addition

Doesnt make sense to me. If the factory warranty is for 3 years why would you need in addition the other bits?

I have to say i just sold my mini and have a new fiesta on hire until i get my new car next month.
It's a great car! Ok the handling is rubbish but for what is a basic car, it's a nice drive :)
Obviously not as good as the new scirocco i'm getting ;)

Seat 5 door SE???? which one? ibiza? leon? Seats are basically cheap volkswagens (similar to skodas) so the ibiza is the polo's brother, same with the golf and the leon.

Peugeot 207 is essentially the new 206. just bigger, bit flashier, but not great to drive.

Hyundai i20, i have no knowledge of, sorry :(

The corsa was brilliant, but now is lagging at the bottom of the supermini group because everyone else has brought out new models relatively recently -polo, punto, ibiza, fiesta etc

The cars you're considering vary quite alot in terms of size, style and performance. There is a big difference between a Golf and a Corsa.

The Golf is a great car, but it's very expensive for what you actually get. If you want a Golf sized "family hatch" then I'd recommend you look at the Seat Leon (Golf in Seat clothing), or even the old shape Vauxhall Astra, with the new shape literally just out, you can get massive discounts on 59 plate delivery mileage cars in the old style.

If your looking more at the i20/Corsa/207 i'd give up on all three and pick either a fiesta or polo. Polo comes with more kit for less £s but the fiesta is supposedly the better drive. Personally i'd take the Polo!

The advantage to buying 1yr old cars is you buy the car for a lot less than list price, thus missing out on the massive initial depreciation some cars have.
But you're the second owner, it might only have a couple of thousand miles, but you don't know if they were put on by a little old lady popping to the shops, or by a 17 yr old doing donuts in a car park.
And with the wonderful invention of online brokers like broadspeed and drivethedeal there really is no need to buy anything but brand spanking new (or pre-reg with delivery mileage only for an even bigger discount) as they can offer the same discounts on cars made to order!

yes sorry i meant the seat ibiza se, yesi know the seats are just vw's, i was thinking baout buying from a dealership as opposed to private sale, yes i know it could be more money but your covered if anything should go wrong, im not keen on fords really due to past experience. Id discounted the leon as i couldnt see any mention of it being available in a 5 door option but its a litle pricey but im not looking to buy yet so maybe by the time i come to choose ill have enough,

    thanks,
