I was always under the impression that skodas used the previous generation of chasis to the current VW cars. IIRC the Octavia is based on the MK5 Golf rather than the MK6 so it cant really be compared directly. I'd have the VW over the Skoda any day.
If VW is that good, then the previous chassis design can't be that bad. It's like saying you have to buy a new VW every time they release a new model :) Currently the Octavia uses the A5 platform which was used in Mk5 Golfs up to 2009.

You will be OK, it does at least have a one year breakdown warranty.:D

    Cheers.:D

I have been driving Fords for about 5 years now, and I am on my 4th now, because I have upgraded over the years. I can safely say that not once have they broken down on me!

Tough, reliable cars, and even when they do go wrong, they are bloody cheap to repair!

I would hope not, if you only keep them for around a year at a time.;)

You don't keep them long enough to test them really.:D

Oh BTW, you are as well getting rid at one year, the actual Ford Warranty only lasts for a year. ( with a 2 year extension from the supplying dealer )

Well it states on my paperwork 3 year ford warranty.

My first 2 were very old, and were my first couple of cars so they didnt cost much. They were the Mk3 and Mk4. I then went onto buy a Mk6 facelift from new in 2008, and traded that one in for 6k in November because I couldnt resist not having the what car of the year 2009.

    .

Well read it again, it should state 1 year warranty from Ford and a further 2 years extended warranty from the dealer.

" I couldnt resist not having the what car of the year 2009 "

    Speaks volumes.:rotfl:
  • Just picked up my 7th Skoda Octavia - all bought new.

To preempt any comments, I know about depreciation, etc. May be 'cheap' - actually not as cheap as they used to be. May be based on 'old' VW chassis. But, touch wood and not counting chickens, the only problem in 7 cars and 200,000 miles has been a faulty electric window motor - replaced without quibble in a day. I don't think this is just my experience - look at the J D Power surveys for the past few years.

Nope, definitely states 3 years Ford Warranty, and then gives a breakdown of what's covered over the 3 years!

Ouch, have you seen the reliability survey for Kia on that website? Albeit its an American website but Wow, very poor.

Oh sorry, these surveys dont matter so you may aswell not mention them michael.

Sorry, I just don't follow that. Why Kia? I never mentioned Kia. As regards surveys not mattering - who to? I mentioned the J D Power one to illustrate that my experience was not exceptional. My experience determined whether I'd buy another Skoda - not the survey!

I'll stick to reading and leave the posting to others.
