My claim is for financial hardship

If you are currently in financial hardship, you would be better off phoning them to ask them for help. If your claim is for historic charges, you won't get these refunded. Check over your statements before you contact them as if you have non essential spending on your account, a financial hardship claim won't be accepted. Non essential spending is things like Sky, mobile phone contracts, gym memberships, restaurant bills etc. Financial hardship is not being able to cover essential living expenses like gas, electricity, rent, council tax, water etc.
  • Hi does anyone no who do i need to make a claim against for ppi charges? I have held a Burton (menswear) account on a couple of occassions, i am positive i paid ppi charges on these, unfortunately due a fire all my paperwork was destroyed so i have no details whatsoever......!
On a deifferent one i got a reply from Capital One who told me i didnt pay any ppi costs but i have no idea wether i did or not, can anything be done to confirm??
Also i held a credit card opened in 2000 but i dont no who it was with it was a gold account card and i racked up some high spending on it and paid ppi, is there any were i can find out who this was with or a list of credit companies from that date? its not on my crredit report as i checked, only the debt company who now own it as i has trouble paying, this debt has been moved a few times also, but dont pay interest now on it

thanks in advance if anyone can help on any of these :)
  • hi,

I have had to start a DMP with Payplan and part of the debt is with Lloyds TSB for an overdraft. I am paying this off with a small amount each month as part of the DMP. I have had charges imposed because of going overdrawn trying to keep up with all the bills and was wondering if i can try to claim some of these back from Lloyds and offset this from my overdraft.

any help would really be appreciated.

Does the reclaiming guide also apply to business accounts?

It's only worth asking your bank if they will consider a redund of some of your recent charges if you are currentlyin financial hardship.

This sticky thread gives more details of what is meant by the term 'financial hardship' in this regard

It can apply to business that employs fewer than 10 persons and has a turnover or annual balance sheet that does not exceed €2 million.
  • I put in a claim for approx £4000 worth of bank charges with Halifax several years ago after being forced to go long term sick. My bank charges snowballed & some months they took all or majority of my sick pay which forced me to go overdrawn again. I found they were taking charges first which meant I hadn't got enough left for diirect debits so I then got charged again, sometimes £35 for returning an £11 direct debit! I was using a company to claim on my behalf and it was going through when court case stopped all claims. I tried to call company again recently but phone number is not recognised, so I assume they ceased trading after court case. Can I restart same claim or have I got to start new claim. I'm unable to work due to disability. I'd be grateful for any advice.
  • Hi anyone who is reading this,

I'm after a bit of advice, i'm currently just starting the process of reclaiming Bank charges vs Halifax under Finacial hardship. i have reclaimed before (successfully) in the past a few years ago FOR MY PARTNER NOT MYSELF but that was a while ago before it had to be 'financial hardship'

I have sent the first letter to Halifax requesting they give me back the money £487.08 including interest.

i recieved a Voicmail today From Katryn at the Halifax saying she wants to discuss my letter and to call her back. Has anybody had this before? what should i expect her to say? and what should i say? as i'm not very confident at discussing over the phone this claim, i feel i may be shot down with technical mumbo jumbo from Kathryn.

    Please Help. :)

Have your letter in front of you when you call. Make lots of detailed notes regarding each issue you are basing your claim on. Use this as a guide.

Outline clearly your income and expenditure. If you make lots of notes and have your facts written down first you should be able to give her a full picture of how things are for you.

At least they are prepared to discuss your claim instead of giving you an initial 'no' letter. Good luck
