Bank Charges Reclaiming Guide discussion

Hi, provided my evidence for reclaiming Natwest bank charges since 2011. I've basically been unemployed, unable to get full time employment, on and off JSA, and always in the bottom of my overdraft, having to live back at my parents... and yet they have said the charges are justified...
If I'm not justified as under hardship, I don't know who is.
The main crux of it was this:
" In light of the contents of this letter, we do not accept that this argument could give rise to a finding that our unarranged overdraft charges are or were unfair or otherwise unlawful. We are satisfied that the charges you seek to reclaim were properly charged and the judgement of the Supreme Court on 25th of November 2009 confirms our position. We are therefore not upholding your complaint and will not be refunding the unarranged overdraft charges to which you refer. "
Any ideas of next steps??
Thanks :easter:
Yes, their charges are entirely legal.
But that was presumably not your cause for complaint. You were asking for help because you claimed to be in financial hardship.
If you are now living back with your parents, then their financial position must also be included in any financial assessment as financial hardship is based on the whole household, not just an individual.

Hi
I am in the process of going through my account charges, can I claim for planned and unplanned charges ??? I also have account charges on there too ?
Do I add them all up and put this on the letter?
Thank you0 -

I have been charged for an overdrawn balance for 3 consecutive months. The only reason reason the account had gone overdrawn is due to the bank charges. There have been no other transaction s that would have caused an overdrawn balancce . They are charging me bank charges on the bank charges! Can banks do this?0

I think you need to look again.
Bank overdraft charges are only incurred after you have used the overdraft0 -
Hi everyone, I have drafted out my reclaim letter and it is ready to go off to the bank.
Not sure if I have read past this but where do I send my letter to? Do I just send it to the branch?
I tried asking them directly (Santander) they advised me they don't have a department that deals with reclaims and tried to fob me off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you0 -
Before you send it off, what are you claiming for ?
The banks won the court case regarding unfair bank charges, do you have a valid reason for your claim ?0 -

Both for your reclaim of bank charges and your separate complaint that your branch tried to fob you off when asking for their complaints department contact details.0 -
Hi everyone,
Looking for a bit of advice because not actually sure that my claim for bank charges is the same as everyone else on this thread.
We pay £12.50 every month bank charges for a 'gold' account with Lloyds TSB. When I was working this was fine as we got the account for free. Upon having my second child I went to the bank and attempted to cancel the charge. I found out a few months later that I was still paying this charge so went and had a meeting with the bank manager. It turns out the reason that my account was not cancelled was because my signature did not match that on record. After some investigation it appears that when I got married (5 years earlier) they did not update my signature although they did my name?! I have since written to the bank asking them to cancel the account again and asking for compensation as it was their fault the account was not up to date. I have not heard back from them and of course they have not received my letter. I was considering rewriting and sending letter recorded delivery as I made the mistake of not keeping a copy of the last letter.
Anyone think I have any chance or can give me any advice I'd be very grateful.0
