  • I have send my letter last week to halifax got a phone call today amazingly only took them 4days to check my claim. My chargers were £490 got offer £130 today advisor told me that he is trying to help and he should only be giving me £35 refund. He told me he will only refund me unplanned charger from jan 2011. He also said that all the planned chargers he could not refund because it part of the ultimated reward plan. What can I do?
  • Hello Can anyone advise me please.

i would like to begin this process of claiming back fees but the bank concerned has since changed ie it was abbey national now its santander, would i still send the details to santander?

Also the account was in joint names of a previous partner does this change anything?

    i hope someone could advise.

    regards

    Hi Folks

First time of posting anything but always on the lookout in this forum!

Right, well basically I was just looking for some advice as to whether I am eligible to reclaim unplanned overdraft fee's?

Last year, I lost my job and went through a period of agency work which just about kept my head above water. It allowed me to pay rent and that was about it and as a consequence, I started to stray into my unplanned overdraft each month. I'm with the BoS and was charged a pound a day I was in my overdraft. At the end of the month, I have seen myself be charged as much as £25-£35. This only added to my already stretched finances. Eventually, I found a full time job which provided more money obviously. However, it still wasn't the best paid job and I was spending a significant amount of my wages on fuel to get there and back. Once again, I went into my unplanned overdraft. When my wages for the month came in, when I paid off my overdraft, my rent/bills and fuel costs, I didn't have very much left at all and the overdraft fee's I had accrued the previous month only made it that much harder. Basically, it went round in a vicious circle!

Anyway, I'm glad to say now that I have found a higher paid job closer to home which has cut out the fuel costs completely and after a couple of months of doing nothing but sorting out my finances, I'm back on an even keel and staying out of my overdraft.

However, I would just like to know if I have a good case to make a claim for those fee's back or am I wasting my time?

Any help/advice appreciated and any other stories like mine that have been successful would be appreciated!

    Cheers!

As MSE site states one of criteria for claiming is hardship either previously or currently, I would try. Just say how difficult it was as per your OP with as much detail as poss, giving actual examples (but not mentioning unfair charges!) Job loss etc and whilst trying to make ends meet you were unable to get out of the spiral of charges etc. They should see the story from your account.

If you approached the bank at the time of your difficulties and got no help/support that may help your claim somewhat.

See what happens. You have absolutely nothing to lose except for the cost of your time and your recorded postage.

Best of luck and really well done for success on the job front.:j

Yes you need to contact Santander. I'm not sure about the joint account issue though. Are you on speaking terms with ex.partner so that the claim could be done jointly?

    Afternoon everyone.

I have been reading the posts and have realised that under hard ship. I think I'll be own money. But its from 1998 to 2009. to my point in this time frame 80% of my loans were taken out to pay off my bank charges. Good old HSBC got me both ways. Has anyone got any thoughts about me reclaiming the loans?

Thanx for your help in advance

Keep reading the board and you will discover that it's most unlikely you will successfully reclaim under financial hardship unless you are currently in financial hardship and that the continued application of fees is further hindering your attempts to get back on an even keel.

Are so I miss read the info. I manage to get out of the hard ship.

Think I wrote the question wrong in prev. Has anyone tried to get there loans back if the loans were taken out to pay off the charges.

    Thanx
  • Bank: Lloyds TSB
    Original claim: £
    [FONT=&quot]2019.24 (with interest)
    Amount received: £878

I received the phone call a little over 5 minutes ago and they have said that it should be in the next few days.

Apparently I am not entitled to the full amount as overdraft fees and interest are bot refunded as they were for a service which Lloyds have provided. I am quite happy to get that amount but it would be nice for the full.

    Whats everyones thoughts on this?

[FONT=&quot]My thoughts are to take the offer. Can't comment any further as don't know the circumstances of your claim.
    £878 is better than nothing.
