Hi all, brand new member here. Just received yet another bank charge today which wiped out £100, over two separate charges, from my weekly wage. They are a real burden now, trying to pay bills and support my 2 year old daughter after my girlfriend lost her job. I found this website/forum and I finally see some light at the end of the tunnel! I have had a look through the letter templates etc and had just one question, where should I send the letter to? RBS head office or to my local branch?0

You can obtain the appropriate address from the bank's complaint procedure.
(The SAR, if required, should be sent to the Data Protection Manager - google the address)0 -
I was charged in excess of £600 in bank charges about 10 years ago which really pushed me into hardship and I ended up asking my dad to bail me out. All Fire Direct said was to get another job!!!
I have written to First Direct asking for a copy of the transactions I had on my account when I was with them, but unfortunately they've replied saying they have destroyed all my records as it was over 6 years ago.
Is there anything more I can do?
Thanks.0 -

Thanks
I emailed a copy of my letter to the bank (and also posted) but got a reply from them via email saying that they couldn't prove it was me and that I should write in with my address and postcode. They also could not open any attachments.0 -
Right this is my first time posting. Now i am interested in reclaiming bank charges for going overdrawn. For going say £10 overdrawn i was charged £30 bank charge. Now this was 20 years ago and it happened 3 or 4 times. Now the bank in question is midlands which i understand has been taken over by santander is this correct?I do not have any records for this account though as i finished with them after these charges.Do i stand any chance of getting these charges back as i do not have any records of the account at all and i very much doubt they will.Would santander be responsible for these charges. What should i do next?0

It was 20 years ago. Your claim would be statute barred. Apart from the fact that you don't have any records, and I bet the bank don't either.
P.S. Midlands Bank would be HSBC0 -

No chance. Indeed, even considering it is farcical.
Midland is HSBC.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Just to add to what other people have already said, I believe that the absolute latest a bank will go back to is 6 years. This is obviously due to the fact they can destroy any records after this time!0 -
New to this. Signd up for a company to claim my bank charges in 2008, but when the courts won they dropped my claim. We was going through a bad time with money then and a couple of years that we ended up giving are house back to the mortgage people, And sincs then its slowly been getting financial harder. We are bothe self-employed and works getting less and less. Now we think we might be able to aply for financial hardships. But would we be able to claim from the first date the company first claimed from back in 2008..as we had well over £5000 in charges in the 6 years previous as things just kept snowballing. Help much appreciated:(0
