Hi all,
I am certainly happy for all of you that have managed to get refunded successfully, however I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to send me what they might have wrote so that I may have a chance of claiming back £1,200 from HSBC.
Currently I am in a tight spot and desperately need some help, I look forward to hearing back from someone.
Thank you0 -
I wrote to Halifax using the letter templates to claim back my bank charges due to hardship circumstances last week enclosing the total amounts being claimed and its associated interest. I also wrote 2 pages as to why I am claiming back this fund. I have just had a phone call from Halifax to tell me that they will not be refunding my charges or interest due the courts finding bank charges reasonable. She did however say that she will continue to look into this letter fairly and see what they as a bank can do to help my situation.
So not overly pleased about the non refund of charges but at least they will look into my financial situation further and try to help and she will get back to me later today.0 -
Wahoo I just had a return phone call from Halifax as they said they would. They have agreed to return £451 of fees out the initial £1600 claimed based on when my account started to fall into severe down spiral. They have also put a 3-4 suspension on any fees for going into or over my overdraft. This now means that I have got some money in my account to pay a bill or 2.
Not bad news afterall. They clearly do listen and understand the situation people are in just a shame I didnt get the full amount.
Thanks Martin for the letters and advice0 -
I've been fighting my ex-bank - Lloyds TSB - for over three years about charges, hardship and everything else. They're totally random, have about 4 different help desks, never seem to know who's dealing with what... all the usual crap banks spew.
Recently, I ordered all my data from 20 years or so of being a customer (5.7kg of paper, yikes!). I went through it all and listed everything in a spreadsheet. Then I used Martin's template to build a letter explaining why I'd been stuck in the circle of debt/repay, the reasons for hardship, the fact that I'd told them and, most of all, that I'd prefer to sort this out with them rather than go to the Ombudsman.
All in all, I had a total of £3,127 of charges (£4,292.81 with the interest) spread across 2 current accounts (one joint), a loan and a credit card.
In response to the letter, I've had two refusals (current accounts) one of which is an absolutely bog-standard template response. The other says they tried to help by refunding fees (ooh, about 0.5% of the total fees paid out, that was generous). I shall be writing to them again.
I also had a letter from the loans people with a PPI reclaim form in it - they didn't read my letter, apparently, since I wasn't asking about that. Duh! :rotfl:
However, today marked a real milestone in the ongoing saga - I had tried to claim all the old credit card charges. Yes, even the £12 ones they're allowed, plus interest.
I received a fourth letter today from the CC department (oh, it's all so fragmented) and they are repaying ALL the charges IN FULL. Even though they don't have to! They've accepted the hardship claim and just under £600 is on its way to reduce the debt. :j :j
This is even BETTER because I now have a precedent - if the CC team accept it, why don't the others? Aha, extra pressure.
Thanks for the wonderful documents, Martin - I may have written the letter myself but knowing WHICH charges to reclaim, how to word certain things and the amount of interest I could add is awesome. :T
I'll post again if I get the rest back...0 -

Hi All, good luck with your claims. We had a letter of offer from Lloyds for incorrect charging of PPI, saying the claimed amount will be paid in full plus interest within 28 days. That was 4 MONThS AGO . 28 phone calls later and still no closer to getting the money. Any advice on further action would be wellcomed.0

The banks will decline your claim out of hand, but may decide to settle once it goes to the ombudsman.
I got £13,500 out of MBNA this way!:money:0 -
Hi all, I am hoping to claim back charges from Lloyds TSB (fingers crossed!) Do I send the letter to the branch I am registered with or the head office? And what number do you telephone if you wish to speak to someone in Lloyds regarding the claim? Thankyou in advance!
I rang the 0845 3000 000 number last week and asked about reclaiming charges.
Initially the agent told me via her manager that they (LLoyds TSB) were not obligated to refund any charges at all.
I pointed out that the Supreme Court ruling of 2009 said it was possible and lo and behold, they offered me £100 as a full and final settlement of my complaint.
5 minutes on the phone and I got a result that was reasonably satisfying and also proportionate to what I asked for, which was half a dozen or so bounced Direct Debit charges.Justice For The 960 -
I sent a letter to Lloyds TSB a week and a half ago, today I received a reply from them stating that they would be looking into my request for reclaiming my charges. The charges totalled up to almost £1200 without the interest.
Along with the letter today, I have noticed an amount of £96.00 in my account? A CS Andover Payment?
Can anyone please advise me of the next step I should take?0 -
Last week on 8/12 I sent a letter to Santander requesting they refund my bank charges of £270. Yesterday I had a refund of £40 paid into my account. I have not heard from them regarding the decision to only refund this amount however I suppose it is better then nothing. Considering calling them to enquire today.0
