Hubby just got his letter from HSBC, saying they are Upholding complaint, for Cardholder Repayment Protector, as cancelled in account in 2003. But the thing is that was my old account, the one i am complaining about, was opened in 2006. Then further down letter it says, that final response in respect of Personal Loan Protection Plan will be issued in due course. ????????????? This was also what i had many years ago. We are totally confused on this.
    Please help

  • I sent a letter on Monday 28th Novemeber and on Monday 5th December i had a mysterious amount of money credited to my bank account only £8 short of what i wrote asking to claim for so i assumed it was this money but wanted to be sure. I called the bank but they were unsure what the money was. I did not tell them about the claim i had made and the person i was speaking to called through to another branch. he came back on the line after a few minutes and said the money was either deposited by someone with my bank detail (of which my parents are the only people and they had not put money in i checked with them first) He then said it could also be a credit from the bank and asked if i should be expecting any money from halifax, i told him about the letter and he said it could be that but to call back today 6th December to speak to a different department to be sure.

I have just called them and they have confirmed it is regarding my letter and that they have refuned my chagres. In the letter I stated that i had paid £164 in charges and they have paid me £156 back. RESULT! i was suprised how quick it went through and that i didn't recieve any other correspondance. So easy and quick and i am so glad i did this. My next step this week is transfering my outstanding overdraft (which incurs £1 each day in charges) onto a 0% vigin credit card for 20months using the money transfer feature i found out about on here too meaning i will be paying off just the debt and not being charged for having the overdraft! Thanks Money Saving Expert!:j
  • Thank You Martin!

I sent a letter using Martin's template (with quite alot about my personal circumstances added) to Lloyds Tsb last week, my thinking was 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'. I did not expect to get a refund, especially as i have hardly seen any success stories about LTSB. But yesterday i got a phone call from LTSB advising me that they will be refunding £1814 of my money back, i had originally claimed £2596. Today the money is in my bank, i am amazed! so easy! Thanks again Martin!!!

Hi, I am hoping to get some charges back from my bank (HSBC) has anyone been successful? i am in financial hardship, single mum, work part time (no childcare!) and borrowing from friends/family to make ends meet each month as i work to pay the rest of my rent =(

I've looked through all my online bank statements from 2006 until now, my last charge was 2010. all charges totalling £1358 without the interest they charged me too. they're mostly overdrawn charges and a few returned DD, do you think i will be successful in my claim? i have used Martins template but am stuck to put in my "personal circumstances" i've said im a single mum etc.

help - they money would be such great help as im in so much debt, no light...have lived off all the credit i could get now i am trying to pay it back =((

  • Hi to everyone at MSE.
I wanted to share my story with you.
Before that Test Case came to light - I had submitted 2 claims:-
    1. RBS - £6,700 (approx)
    2. Natwest - £800 (approx)
As you will all remember - cases were put on hold.
When the case came to a close and the horrific news came through that the FOS would not be taking it further - my heart sank - as i can imagine - i was not alone.
I kept on writing to the banks and followed the financial hardship route.
After 6 months constantly writing back and for - I was finally accepted as being in financial hardship and so was given a grace period of 6 mths of not paying interest for being overdrawn.
letter after letter was sent and received, until finally i was offered a good will gesture payment of £45 - I turned it down. I was outraged to think that they could possible believe I would take such a insult of an offer!!
I then reffered my case to the financial ombudsman.
after around 6mths again of passing letters back and for - the FOS sided with the bank - I was heart broken.
Around 2 weeks later, I started being charged for the interest and pleasure of being in my overdraft each month.
Thinking there was nothing else to do, I decided to give up all hope of ever seeing a penny back and put all my paperwork up the attic out of the way - by then depression had then set in and my husband was not happy seeing me so upset!
Then one day, I thought i would take a look at this forum again to see if anybody had been lucky.
I came across a thread written by a gentleman, who explained that he had written to CEO of the bank he was trying to claim from.
I thought, why not give that a go - after all - I had nothing to lose.
I promised my husband that if I didnt get anywhere, then I would lay it to rest once and for all!!!
So.... At the end of August 2011 - 6 mths after my FOS rejection - I wrote a letter to the CEO of the bank and waited to hear.
I received the normal letter stating that they would look into it.
Around the 20th November, I still hadnt heard anything, so I wrote a letter stating that I wanted to know what was going on!
I received a letter stating that, my case was being dealt with and I would hear within a week.
On the 2nd December 11, I received a letter stating that the person dealing with my claim - believed that the bank had acted correctely, and that it was my responsibility to make sure that there was sufficient money in my account to meet the demands of my direct debits and standing orders.
But, as I read on my jaw dropped!!!!
The letter then divided into two claim parts.
    1. Rbs account - I was offered £4,500.00 in full and final settlement.
    2. Natwest - I was offered £500.00 in full and final settlement.
Both offers came with the agreement that - If I accepted the offers, then my overdraft of £1.250.00 was to be cleared from the compensation money and the facility was removed.
As you can imagine - I was over the moon!!
I was so happy with the thought of not being charged £17 per month for using my overdraft!!!
SOOOOOO........... To the lovely gentleman who took the time to write on here, his idea of going straight to the CEO of the bank - I THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART (unfortunately, I dont know your name and cant find your thread - as I would have named you on here) Also - I wanted to thank Martin and all the staff on this site for your help and advice!!
PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP HOPE - GO STRAIGHT TO THE CEO - THEY DON'T MESS AROUND.
I'm sorry that my thread is so long, but I wanted to explain my situation in the hope that I can also help somebody out.
good luck to you all - I hope you have a VERY VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS - just like the one we will now have thanks to all of you x x x x x :T:T
