If you are half Greek then Nicos is fine. It is a nice name, personally I would go for Nicol/Nichol, but then I am just under half Scottish and it was my G Uncle's name. Is Nico Greek or Italian, if it is Greek I personally Prefer Nico to Nicos. ( Just looked Nico according to Babynamer is Greek.) Can Nicos also be spelt Nikos?
I think that it is nice to have a name that says something about your ethnicity, but also can be anglicised if your child so wants when they are older if they want as they live in the UK. So Nicos fits this perfectly, you may not want to shorten his name, but Nicos may have other ideas!!!0 -
I asked about my sons name (not current baby on the way) on another forum, not because i would actually base my opinion on what a random cyber space stranger thought, but whether there was anything I hadnt myself taken into consideration that could affect him.
As it was the name was Mason and on finding out I lived in scotland and was scottish, it started a whole religious debate, being totally unreligious, I had no idea it was a 'jesuit' name....still...didnt stop me calling him Mason anyways...stone masonary runs in the family, Mason = Man whom works with stone.
Point being asking for opinions can sometimes be a good thing
Thats true I like to hear others opinions no things, no one says Ive gotta run with what they say, by the way I like Mason !0 -

I'm afraid I hate Xander and it's because I can't abide people naming their child already shortened names. Does that make sense? So for example if you would like to call your child Xander, fine but he should be christened or certificated or blessed under a tree as Alexander. Same goes for Esme and Esmerelda etc etc. I think it gives the child a choice in later life. What if they hate it? I mean who wants to be Moon Unit?
I like Demetrius?
My little boy is named Xander Luke and if he has a problem with his first name then he has his middle name to fall back on
I personally dont like the name Alexander as i feel it sounds pompus and there are an awful lot more girls with the name or variants of it.....There's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.

hi,
Its Greek but I suppose it could be Italian as well, so many names blend these days. :beer:0 -
Nicos reminds me of Nico which in turn reminds me of some greasy bloke with slicked back hair, wearing a wife beater thats quite clearly far too small to contain those moobs
*shudders*
I know I'm way late on this thread and you've already gone off Zayden but I love love love it!!
I chose my little boys name on the basis it couldn't be shorted
I was wrong. The next person that calls him Ree I may have to take a swing at themFuture Mrs Gerard Butler

Team Wagner
[/STRIKE] I meant Team Matt......obviously :cool:0 -
I prefer the name Nicos to Zayden, but I prefer the spelling with a K rather than a C, so Nikos.
I don't know why i don't like Zayden because I had Kayden on my shortlist for boys names!!
I also the the name Xander as a few people have mentioned. I think that is also greek. Alexander is a greek name and Xander is the modern version isn't it?0 -
another Zander lover here, I also like alessandro but I think thats italian....:starmod:Sealed Pot Challenge Member 1189:starmod:0

I used to go to school with someone who went by his middle name instead of his first.
OP - does the name actually have to be Greek? Have you had a look at http://www.babynames.org.uk/greek-boy-baby-names.htm ? Although some of them sound like surnames to me.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Purely out of interest, why can't you 'abide' other people naming their own children shortened names? I honestly can't understand why anyone else would even have an opinion on what other people choose to name their own children. Just choose your own children's names and forget about other people.
[Not having a go, just asking]
Oh I don't judge people who do it at all - that would be a bit mean! It's just a pet peeve you know? Like erm not liking white before labour day whatever that means!! It's just not something I would do myself!
