Have you looked online and searched under traditional Greek names ?

I would imagine so, along with all the other suggestions on the other thread she started about choosing a name!

Why do you care what other people think, OP?

  • oh i love them both!

For what its worth i also love Noah and Jonah....hardly Greek tho!

Do be careful if considering a name tha sounds like another name, it will slowly send you round the twist! My son is Rowan and is FOREVER even at school by teachers who do not teach him call him Ronan, now nothing against the name Ronan, but thats simply not his name! My son simply ignores them now though and if hes asked why he just says 'thats not my name' I also have a great Aunt who calls him Roland...but she is 95 so can be excused

My other is Patrick, and gets called Rick..again nothing against any Richards out there but his name isnt Rick!

I don't care for the 2 names, but I'm very old fashioned. Out of the 2 I prefer Nicos to Zayden (is that really Greek?).

I like Apollo as a name, but perhaps I'm a bit odd.
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.
  • I like Xander better now I know the Greek connection (and that it is short for Alexander, which I did not initially realise.)

Maybe shes just asking for opinions? The same way we all do when we start a new thread?

With all due respect Lydia, I was asking the OP this question, not you.
I would prefer she answer, not you.

    Hi Lydia,

I don't particulary care what other people think, but I think its nice to see others opions on things other than just your own, and yes I have had a look at other Greek names and none really grab me like them two, so I just thought I would ask what of either the names did people prefer, but if personally not interesed or didn't want to comment then don't bother reading this thread, no-one made you, I asked people who wanted to answer and thankfully most of them have something positive to say or have been pretty helpful to me :p

    Hi,

I really can't understand all this exotic names for babies lark. Do foreign parents actually called their babies Dave or Steve because they are fashionably British names??? Absolutely not.

Do you ever see French parents giving their babies traditional Israeli names, such as Joshua or Reuben? Is their anyone America called Luigi that has not got Italian roots? Why on Earth would anyone wish to give their child a name that is of a nationality or faith they have absolutely no association with? Why on earth would you call your child Nicos if there is not a scrap of Greek heritage in the family? Have you ever met a German/Dutch/Spanish/Italian person, for example, that does not have a traditional German/Dutch/Spanish/Italian christian name?

Britain must be the only place in the World that are not happy with their traditional christian names, and lamely adopt traditional names of others as a fashion statement....

No wonder foreigners laugh their heads off at us. They must think we are stupid.

How many examples from the Dutch office I work in would you like?

And names have always travelled between countries and faiths, so it would be fairly difficult to prove that ANY name was specific to a certain country or faith.

And what's wrong with a little cultural integration and appreciation??

I asked about my sons name (not current baby on the way) on another forum, not because i would actually base my opinion on what a random cyber space stranger thought, but whether there was anything I hadnt myself taken into consideration that could affect him.

As it was the name was Mason and on finding out I lived in scotland and was scottish, it started a whole religious debate, being totally unreligious, I had no idea it was a 'jesuit' name....still...didnt stop me calling him Mason anyways...stone masonary runs in the family, Mason = Man whom works with stone.

Point being asking for opinions can sometimes be a good thing :)
