I hated my name as a child, also a Biblical name!, I think Saul is a lovely name, actually nicer than Paul tbh!
Biblical meanings only matter if you are of a faith where the Bible matters (I am but appreciate others are not!).
I also think we associate names with a person we might have known as a child with that name, or a friend etc.

Oh i still hate my name as an adult, its not biblical but is now linked to child killers...Maxine. As it is, noone ever calls me maxine anyways, I was a total tomboy growing up and insisted on Max at all times, to the point that the only person whom still calls me Maxine is my mother :rotfl: I am actually seriously considering changing my name by deedpole to just Max...save time when filling out forms with 'please state nickname/preferred choice of name.......'

I dont have faith when it comes to the bible, but I do like biblical names. I chose Saul, as I liked Sol, but figured a lot of folk would think thats short for solomon, a bit of a heavy name for a baby to carry! Finding out it was a biblical name was a surprise really.

  • Panicos? Can be shortened into Nico.

    Zephyros?

Most other Greek names I know, I associate with fully grown men, and seeing as practically every one is a variation on Peter, James, Andrew, Anthony or Stephen, they're all just variations on a theme!

Have you asked your Dad for ideas - or are all his mates called Panayiotis, Georgios and Dmitri? :D

    :D

No funny enough my dad grew up on the Old Kent Road, even though he was born in Cyprus so he is really English if you know what I mean, but his brother who was born in England is really Greek, you know married the greek girl, has the greek kids they go to greek school etc, my dads the oppisite he married an english girl, got the english kids etc :rotfl:

So most of his friends names are all English !! then if I look at his brothers side they are all to Greek, like Stavros, Theo (I liked but keep seeing the bloke from Dragens Den in a pram and it puts me right off) :rotfl:

I agree. Many names I like have been ruined by knowing little terrors with them.

    What about Luca or Lucas?

I had a boy in my primary school called Zachaios, which was shortened to Zach by his friends but not the teachers. You could go with something like that and have a 'Y' and a 'Z'- very unusual, if you have a third you could then chose a name beginning with 'X'!

This is so true!! My friend is a teacher and he has a long list of 'naughty names' that he would never even consider calling his children. Connor is top of the no no list (sorry all parents of Connor's):rotfl:
  • thanks Rachel, I think Im going to stick with Nikos/Nicos in the end, unless something else comes up between now and birth !!
