    update:

So yesterday I had my appointment at the Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic

I first got a scan, then get weighed (boo) and measured

Then I go to another waiting room and wait to be called in.

We get seen by a doctor (a Mr. Raj Rai) who seemed quite good. I was quite happy with him.

I bruise very easily and he seemed interested when I told him that. I do sometimes get unexplained bruises and put it down to being clumsy and I just need to look at a chair edge to get a bruise... but it seems i could have something in my platelets that affects all this... and could be a cause for the miscarriages

He didn't seem too hung up about the weight, but did say sometimes just losing 5% of your body weight is enough to help things - and he said it's not just the weight, it's likely to be a series of factors.

This was good as I had been having nightmares about them just dismissing me because of the weight and stuff...

So after that I did get blood taken out - lots, more than I expected - and made another appointment for 12th April to get even more blood taken out and then another for mid May to get the results...

So I am off TTC at least until mid-May but I am feeling positive as things are moving...
  • That's interesting, low platelet count can cause easy bruising, and I have that - but have only had one m/c.

The Consultant said there isn't often just the one factor, it could be a combination - could be weight + low platelet count + other factors, including even bad luck...

but if it's something like the blood thing, I can take aspirin or heparin or something and it will all help out...

I have to wait till May but at least I will know I am having good support next time I get pregnant... they scan you at 6, 8, 10 and 12 weeks and then if all is well release you to your normal hospital

    Hi there,

Sorry I've not been on here for a while, I'm a bit of a mess at the moment. Basically I went for the ultrasound last Tuesday and they said that there was a sac but they couldn't see anything else at the moment and to go back in ten days and if the bleeding gets any worse to phone them.

I've had a urinary tract infection as well (I get recurring ones) so I didn't go into work Mon, Tues, Wed. I felt like I had to go back on Thursday as I'm a teacher and feel so guilty being off and have had a few issues with the head in the past. It was awful though - I couldn't concentrate on anything, everyone could tell I wasn't my normal self and kept asking if I was ok, plus I was going home absolutely exhausted.

Over the weekend I've had heavier bleeding start compared to what I have been having - kind of like the start or end of a period which is light but enough to need a panty liner. It's been more red in colour too whereas before it has been more brown/light pink. Since this has started I've been finding it all a bit more hard to handle - I've had 3 weeks of bleeding/spotting now and there are times where I've (foolishly I know) started to hope that everything is going to be ok.

I can't face going in to work tomorrow and know I need to phone the EPAU about the heavier bleeding but don't know what to do. Should I tell the head everything or not? If I have time off now and then I'm still waiting for the miscarriage in a weeks time what do I do then? I just don't feel emotionally strong enough to be able to cope with this at the moment. I know it's an early miscarriage and other people go through far worse in later stages but the fact that it is so drawn out for me is mental torture.

Would a doctor give me a sick note if the miscarriage has not yet happened? I've never asked for one before and worry they would just think I am overreacting? Is that the right thing to do or should I just be going to work and getting on with it until it actually happens?

I feel so isolated at the moment, I have one friend who has been amazing and couldn't have got through this so far without her but I worry that she will lose patience with me soon. My OH was very supportive at first but is now fed up with me being miserable and thinks I should just be getting on with things.

Sorry for the long rambling post.

  • I would take the time off mnc, I'm a teacher too.

If you tell the head anything, say you have gynaecological problems and have terrible bleeding and cramps, that should put paid to any further questioning.

If you have difficulty about time off, please involve your union rep. If the head doesn't like it s/he can send you to occupational health, but that is ALL s/he can correctly do.

    Lots of hugs.
