  • Happy birthday Mrs_T_M, I'm sorry it's such a rubbish one for you. I ended up in hospital on my birthday having my first miscarriage - it's not exactly the best case scenario. I hope you've managed to find at least a tiny bit of happiness somewhere in the day.

Cyclamen, I don't see that as a silly reason to cry. Perfectly valid.

My twins (mc#3) would have been due in 4 weeks. I keep wondering if they would be imminent as twins are normally early. Xx

Oh I do hate seeing this thread come up again :(

    Gelly big hugs xxx

Mrs T_M I am so sorry to hear your news. That must be so hard to cope with. I wanted to add that if you did feel you would benefit from donating your milk (and it would definitely help babies and mummies who receive it) you could look into swapping to an anti-d that is OK for breastfeeding - the BfN Drugs in Breastmilk helpline can advise you on that and if you check first with the milk bank and ensure they would accept it then I'm sure you could make it work.

Skintchick, I think I'm going to do that. Just pumped so that I would stop hurting and the relief (physically and emotionally) is tangible! Im going to try and find someone who can use it locally, but I'm afraid I don't know where to start!

Doesn't help that the workmen who were here today installing our new front door accidentally cut our phone line, so I'm stuck using 3G until the engineer comes out and fixes it.

I started reading 'Avoiding Miscarriage' by Susan Rousselot last night. I'm only in the first chapter, but so far it has been great at explaining things, statistics, real numbers, and it's encouraging.

There is a group on Facebook called Human Milk 4 Human Babies where people milk share. You could ask on there. I think it's a wonderful thing to do, xxxx

Sounds like we all need hugs today - i have had a very down last few days and my poor OH has really had a tearful me to deal with :( bless him....

So i had a call from the hospital early jan asking if i would like to help them in a trial called 'tablet' - it's to do with miscarriage and the effect of the thyroid on pregnancy.

This is the study (copied from web)

The TABLET trial is a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial which is looking at the role of thyroid antibodies in miscarriage. There is evidence that thyroid antibodies can influence important pregnancy outcomes such as increasing the risk of miscarriage and delivering a baby prematurely. The TABLET Trial is a national study in which all women trying for a pregnancy under the age of 41 are invited to have a blood test to see if they have thyroid antibodies.
We are particularly interested in seeing whether a drug called Levothyroxine reduces the risk of miscarriage in women who have thyroid antibodies even though their thyroid hormones are in the normal range.

The midwife was quite vague on the phone but asked me to pop in (and i'm always willing to help people) and when i got there and she explained further the trial and for now, myself and my partner aren't sure if we will actively be trying to conceive again just yet.....

Though i had the bloods done anyway seeing as i was there and thought at least it would give me peace of mind if all ok - errrrrr no! My results came back positive for antibodies. So now i am wondering what to do about things. obviously i've only had the one miscarriage but worried about future pregnancies a bit and wondering whether i should go to doctor with my results and see what she says?

Anyone got any experience with thyroid issues? currently mine is in normal 'range' but i do feel tired a lot and i do find it hard to lose the weight i've gained (though am a slimming world member).....

my tsh was 4.12 (says on the paper that normal range is 0.27-4.20) and free t4 was 12 (says on the paper that normal range is 12-23)

antibodies were 154 (normal range 0-70)

High TSH low T4 usually means underactive thyroid and my sister has not long been diagnosed either.....
