Very sorry to see you here again Portsmouthali. And all the other ladies going through hard times at the moment. Thinking of you all this evening.
We decided this month to stop trying now that more than a year has passed since our last loss with no BFP and although I am sad that there will be no more children, it is the right decision for us. Have felt more peace in the last 3 weeks than I have all year.0 -
So sorry to see you here again Ali.
Nicki glad you have found some peace.

PANTS PANTS PANTS.If you can think it........it will happen0 -
Spent nearly three hours at the hospital today. Scan followed by chat with midwife, then doctor, to book me in for ERPC next week and then bloods (again!). ERPC is Wednesday (7th) unless things start naturally before then
Decided not to go back to work this afternoon, so am at home on sofa under a blanket. Have put some washing on and will do some neglected tasks (bin out, recycling etc) that we've been too exhausted for so far this week - but mainly rest.
Tomorrow I'll be back in work and we've got some comedy tickets booked from months ago so we're going to have a night out in London and be distracted.
For the ERPC I've just been told to call first thing (6.30am!) on Weds to check the bed space and that I'll be told then what to bring/ do. For the ladies who've been through this, are there any things you wished you'd known or prepared before the ERPC. I've got a stock of heavy duty pads ready and will buy/ borrow a bunch of magazines to keep me going!
Best wishes to you all and a big hug for everyone who needs it xxfran-o0 -
fran-o I am glad you have a date for your ERPC, hopefully from that day onwards you can really begin to move on.
I can't offer you any advise on the actual proceedure I'm afraid as my 1st mc started and completed by itself, and the other two were chemical pregnancies, but I know a lot of the ladies who post on here have experiences and will be able to advise you. I'm guessing as you have said already, take lots of magazines to keep you occupied whilst you are waiting.

Hi fran-o,
As well as some heavy flow pads, I would suggest packing a small over night bag with pjs, wash stuff etc just in case (it's a day procedure but I like to be prepared as my oh is rubbish at getting my stuff together). Take nail polish off before you go, as they will ask you to take it off if you haven't. Spare pants and I took feminine hygiene wipes for a freshen up before and after because after the general anaesthetic I couldn't have managed a proper wash up!
I was desperate to get out the hospital, but found by the time I got home I'd bled really heavily and was considering returning. I think blood had pooled while I was lying down, so this time I'm going to try and wait an hour once I'm up and about before leaving to make sure.
It was quite straightforward, the staff were really supportive and sensitive to why I was there.0 -

My 1st ERPC I was given a date went in early no food from mid-night the night before & no food/drink day of op.
A dressing gown light weight was good & lots of mags or wordsearch stuff.
I just used nighttime pads which were find.
With the one I had last week as it was emergency it was all a bit of a blur.:o:o:o
All the staff were amazing. I remember saying goodbye god bless to my babies before they were gone.:(:( & I was put to sleep.
I was a bit spaced out after & you have to have someone with you for the next 24 hours & you are not allowed to drive for 24 hours xxxIf you can think it........it will happen0 -
Thanks ladies for sharing your experiences - really very kind of you and so useful.
I think I will pack a bag of PJs, toiletries and magazines ready. The midwife did mention today about leaving jewellery at home as i'll just have to take it off anyway. My husband is going to tell his work tomorrow that he needs the day off and will be with me all day. I will ask my Mum to pop in on me the following day.
thanks again lovely people - hugs to everyone xxfran-o0 -

So sorry to hear your news. I'm so grateful you started up this thread tho - it has been such a MASSIVE help for me to have support of other ladies going through similar experiences. So sorry for those people who have to return to the thread more than once tho
Nicki, glad you have found peace with your decision. I completely underestimated how stressful and testing TTC can be. It would be nice to relax and not worry all cycle long about what my body is or isn't doing
Fran-O, there is usually a lot of waiting to be done for the procedure. I was on a gynae ward in a private room with its own toilet etc which was nice. I had to be there at 7.30am, and had to be nil by mouth including drinks from midnight the night before. I didn't have my procedure done til 4pm I think as emergencies obviously came above me. It was such a long and boring wait, whilst I was obviously very upset, but also thirsty, hungry and getting increasingly nauseaus from the pregnancy symptoms too. I had an overnight bag in the car for just in case, and I took some magazines, a book and was on my phone too, and DH stayed the whole time with me. They had to put an antibiotic anally which I wasn't prepared for (obv they did tell me before they inserted it, lol!). I knew they might have to insert a pessary vaginally to soften the cervix to make the operation easier, but the antibiotic thing came as a shock. It was for infection prevention. They didn't need to do the pessary in the end tho. You aren't allowed any jewellery including wedding rings etc, which I had a little sob about that too.
Its a long, tiring and very emotional day. Afterwards you will feel a bit sore, crampy and have some bleeding. I actually felt relieved in some ways once the operation was over (and then sometimes felt guilt for feeling relieved). I felt like I could start to move on, and that the pregnancy symptoms would stop (my molar pregnancy made my sickness awful. I had lost a stone in 3-4 weeks through not being able to eat and being sick so much). They cover the inside of your legs etc with that yellowy coloured stuff (iodine or something?) but I was too pooped when I got home to have a shower or anything. I had taken some baby wipes with me so had got rid of the worst of it straight away.
After the operation I had to do a wee in one of them grey bucket things over the loo as they wanted to check for blood loss. I wasn't allowed to go home until I had done a wee, had a drink, and had something to eat. I think it was a good hour or 2 afterwards before I got to go home, which was frustrating as I just wanted to be home. All the staff were really really lovely with me too.
Hope you get on ok xxxMarried my lobster in July 2011
