Awww, MrsJ I'm so sorry for you.
Take as much time off work as you need. I work for my brother, so came in to work just a couple of days later, but I do still get down days every now and again and I took a day off last month cos I was in a v bad way over the blood tests. People understand. Don't rush back is what I am trying to say. You will easily get a sick note for 2 week+ if you want one.
Its such a funny time you will go through now. You will feel all sorts of emotions ranging from denial, shock, numbness, thinking you are coping ok, crying uncontrollably, feeling lucky (to have DH etc) feeling like the unluckiest person in the world, feelings of bitterness, resentment and jealousy, happiness, laughter, guilt for feeling happy/laughing.
Its all normal
And the world does officially suck. I can totally tell you that.
But given time, the world sucks a little less than it does right now.
Keeping talking and let yr emotions out, whatever they may be. Your DH, best friend, mum and the boards will all become invaluble at times (and other times no help at all).
Think thats all for now. Take care of yourself and be kind to yourself.

MrsJ I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, please take good care of yourself and DH. It seems like from what you posted you won't need any treatment to ensure everything has gone so you can concentrate on you and coming to terms in your own time. I agree with Abis, don't rush back to work
Emylou I don't know if it's unusual but my EPU is linked to an assisted conception unit and the counselling service is provided for 'ward 2' as a whole so it is on the NHS and a smaller waiting list than what you would normally get, about six weeks. I was givenline contact number in my discharge notes. After I had a complete breakdown in work I called and after an 'assessment' which felt more like a first session, I was offered six sessions of what they call person based therapy, which is basically you talk and the counsellor listens, occasionally repeating or contextualising what you've said.
It doesn't sound all that useful but for me it really was. My mind was muddled from the grief and I didn't honestly know what I tout about it all until I was able to talk out loud for hours. And yes a friend or DH could have listened but I would have felt guilty for taking up so much of their time or self involved or worry about what they thought of what I said.
To me it really was worth its weight in gold and I I would encourage anyone who is thinking of having counselling to investigate how to are it happen. I kept thinking I was being silly and didn't need it bt it's like the lady said- no one walks through the door because they're fine x xLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6
