Im hoping my blood test will give me some answers as to why my af hasnt returned, but apparently im lucky as they dont have to test me for 6 months as its not unusual for periods to dissapear after.
Ladies I think this is a lovely thread, very supportive. I had a missed miscarriage at a 12 week scan in December 07 - even worse it was hubby's birthday and we were so excited. Like some of you state I was petrified during my subsequent pregnancy, but I did have a healthy baby last year, and hopefully for you all you too will get what you want. I wanted to quote this as after my ERPC I didn't have a period for months, even though I had terrible crampy pains every month (much worse than they were normally). My GP wouldn't do anything, nor would the EPU, but because I had my ERPC done with my insurance (because the date the NHS offered me was Christmas Eve) I could be investigated under this. It was so frustrating as all GPs ask is are you pregnant again.
Luckily for me it was a small clot which came away during some internal investigations, but had I not persisted I don't know how long I'd have to wait. So my long winded message to you is good luck, keep persevering. I do hope this is useful to someone, I'm wary of causing any upset, so please tell me if I have upset anyone - it wasn't my intention. Best wishes to you all - I wish this thread was around 2 years ago.0 -
Dribblekitten - im really sorry for your loss, but thank you for your story,
I had a really bad time during my ERPC and im petrified that there maybe something still in there, but im not having any cramps and there is no bleeding so part of me is hoping its just my body playing up.
Ive been told that if the blood tests come back ok then the next thing they will do is a scan, im just really hoping everything sorts its self out soon i get prodded and poked enough during pregnancy so i really dont want to go down that route just trying to get pregnant.
I think if im honest with myself if they cant find anything wrong then im going to give up and be happy with the ones i have xThere's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.

TBH I didn't take a pg test until 5-6 weeks after my m/c's .. a week or so of bleeding followed by a 4ish week cycle.. with DD5 conceived after a natural m/c I was 9 weeks before I actually caught up with myself to realise I'd not had a period in the 10 weeks after my m/c.. I was a little busy! I can't think of any reason to POAS unless you believe there is a chance you are pg... harsh as it sounds it isn't likely to give an accurate result until 2-3 weeks after conception which would be at least 4-5 weeks after m/c.Pigpen, if like some of these ladies have done you allow nature to take its course then it is advised to take a pg test after to make sure the hormones have returned to normal, the scan only makes sure nothing has been retained
I wasn't told anything of the sort after any of mine, and it just seems cruel to 'advise' people to do so (not to mention the expense). I had a repeat scan once a week to check for anything remaining and told all was clear/more to come away and rescan or book for ERPC.. It is a pretty silly thing to advise IMO.. causing more grief and distress when they are planning to rescan anyway.. if there is something left you carry on bleeding.. take it from someone who has previously bled for 3 months before finding time to go back to have it sorted!
I found it takes a week or so after the m/c for hormone levels to stabilise so any test done within a week or 2 of m/c will most likely show some level of result.. by this time you should have had a repeat scan to check for anything retained and have stopped bleeding. This is pretty much the norm according to the specialist at our hospital.. I've not had ERPC after either of my m/cs, so I agree V, I guess it's just for those of us who have miscarried "naturally". I was told to test a week after my last scan, then if positive a week later, and if it remained positive after 2 weeks to let them know. They gave me the tests so it hasn't cost me anything. I know in some areas they will do blood tests to determine hcg levels, I guess this another (cheaper) way of checking that the hormone levels drop. It's probably different in each area. I certainly wouldn't have bothered if the EPU hadn't asked me to, or provided me with the tests.
dk, I'm sure you haven't upset anyoneThanks for posting xx

I have had no follwo up at all, so just hoping my body is able to sort itself out and i will have no issues. I had the ERPC and was sent on my way. I have had no appointments with my doc or the EPU, no further scans so i am just carrying on.Leopardlady

It's amazing what a bit of sunshine can do. It's lovely down here in Sunny Southsea today, I've been for a walk round the shops and I feel pretty good
Hope this mood lasts!
How is everyone else today? xx0 -
Hi Ali - it is nice and sunny here in South London today too. Went out earlier for the first time in days, just down to the local shop to get a few bits and to get my season ticket ready for work next week.
I feel absolutely exhausted at the moment. Everything is a complete effort. I had another bad patch this morning..it just comes and goes.
Going to a friends for dinner tonight which will be nice, and going to have a few glasses of wine. We've really been laying off the booze recently. Going to try and be a bit healthier this time in readyness for ttc again. Even got OH on the vitamins!
Glad you're having a better day Ali. Got much planned for the w/e?Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
Oh how I wish this thread had been here at the end of November.
We were expecting our first and were obviously very excited. Was pretty sick between weeks 6 – 10 but nothing that made me think there was anything wrong. We found out at the 12 week scan that our little one stopped growing at 6wks – it was a very difficult time as I really felt like our whole world had fallen apart. I had no idea how upsetting and isolating a mc is until I had one myself.
We opted for the ERPC which went without any problems – that in itself was a scary prospect but luckily I had the support of my wonderful husband and some friends who we had told about the baby.
That all seems so long ago now but occasionally things happen to remind me. Just the other day someone at work asked me how long hubby and I had been married and when I told her she said “about time you had a baby then”
We are trying again and I have wanted to join the ttc thread on here but felt like maybe I didn’t really fit in and don’t want to scare other people on there. This is our second cycle and I’m hoping it doesn’t take us too long to conceive again – hopefully this time we will be blessed with a sticky bean.
Thank you too all those who have shared their stories. Miscarriage is so rarely talked about and I think it is something that people (who wish to) should be able to speak about openly. After all it is so common and unfortinately happens to so many people unfortunately.

You've reminded me! I need to get my train ticket for next week.
Going to sis-in-law's for brunch tomorrow, it's her birthday this weekend and it's become a bit of a tradition. I've baked some cupcakes as an alternative to a birthday cake - will post some pics later.
Other than that, just a quiet one really which suits me. New series of LOST tonight which I'm really looking forward to
I don't want to speak too soon, but I seem to have stopped bleeding. :j0
