  • Help Portsmouth Ali. I am so, so sad for you. As much as everyone's experience of miscarriage is different, there are some similarities between you and me. I still remember the look on the midwife's face during my 12 week scan for my 1st pregnancy, and seeing the empty pregnancy sac myself.

Your decision on what to do next is exactly that...your decision. However I just wanted to say that after 3 miscarriages, I was offered Clexane Heparin injections combined with childrens' aspirin for my 4 th pregnancy. we were not sure if we would be able to bear another pregnancy but (when we got pregnant by accident!!!), we took the treatment. I injected from 6 Weeks to 36 weeks. My tummy was a bloody mess, I was an emotional wreck but ( for whatever reason) something worked and our little girl arrived safe and sound. I honestly don't know if it was the treatment that made the difference, but I am glad I did it.

Good luck making your decision, regardless of what you decide. I will be thinking about you x
  • Thanks Ginger Poodle, that's so good to hear. We have pretty much decided that we will try again but we're going to have a little break as my OH has his final accountancy exams coming up in December (Hopefully the end of 6 years of studying!) and we're hoping to have a holiday abroad early next year, so will start trying after that. Did you have any recurrent miscarriage tests at all? My blood tests all came back clear, but my consultant has said that sometimes blood can change as you progress through pregnancy which is why he thinks the clexane injections may be worth a go.

Hope you're OK Mips. It's so hard not knowing why, especially when you've tried to do everything right. I know someone who is just about to have her 3rd baby in 3 years, she has smoked all the way through each of her pregnancies  and I'm afraid I just can't face speaking to her at the moment. Daft I know as it's not her fault this has happened to me. Just seems so unfair :( Take care of yourself x

I was treated so well in hospital yesterday, the nurses, anaesthatist, and the surgeon were all very kind to us and treated us with such sensitivity. It made an upsetting experience a whole lot easier. I am quite tired today, but not in any pain. I've been signed off work for the rest of this week, so am going to take it very easy xx

Hi Ali. I had a full set of tests plus scans and physicals but everything came back normal. The sticky blood thing was suggested as a possibility to me too, and my sister has an auto immune condition which may also impact me. That is why my consultant suggested the heparin/aspirin treatment. I hope I haven't made the treatment sound terrible. You soon get used to injecting yourself (although the bruising cost me my career as an underwear model...). The most difficult time was the first 6 weeks as they wouldn't commence treatment until there was a heartbeat detected, and the last few weeks as they need to stop to let your blood return to normal in case of bleeding in labour or a section. And I was always cold!

Anyway. Good luck to you and your husband. If you ever want to please feel free to PM me about the treatment. I know you have masses of support on here but if I can ever do anything please just say x
  • You haven't made the treatment sound terrible at all GP, I will do whatever it takes :)

I've been wondering today whether there could be anything "wrong" with my womb. In my first pregnancy, sonographers never had any problems at all seeing my son on scans, in every subsequent pregnancy it's been difficult. I had quite a long & difficult labour with my son, I wonder if any damage was done? I'm probably clutching at straws, but I will mention it to my consultant at my next appointment.

I felt very low today, the sort of day where you want to pull the duvet over your head and tell everyone to f*%k off. But my parents came down with my niece today, so that wasn't an option :o

    Hope everyone else is OKxxxxxx

    Hi PA

Did you have an internal scan as part of your tests? I was told it was to check that everything was in the right place and undamaged. Definitely worth asking your consultant, as you say.

Re. telling the world to FO occasionally. Do it. It is very liberating x

Mine talked about the results of the tests, talked about what they would offer in a future pregnancy and asked if we had any questions and then those were discussed. It was with a consultant and one of the more senior midwives. I found the appointment itself was okay but the waiting area was not so good (outside the room where I had the last scan, sitting with obviously pregnant women and various breastfeeding promotion stuff around which included lots of pictures of babies and a DVD) so it's worth being mentally prepared for the waiting room environment.

  • Thanks Susan - I know obviously practically it makes sense but you would think they would have a bit of tact and not have these appointments in the same rooms as we have been in before - ohh the good old nhs :) thanks for sharing
