nikki.. FWIW I would opt for the ERPC every time, I bled constantly near enough for 3 months before giving in last time after a mc at 6 weeks.. it was simply not shifting. It will be over and done with so much quicker. :(

  • Hi nikki

    sorry for your loss.

i had a mmc in 2005, i had a d&c to remove as didn't want to wait and was advised that was the best way rather than waiting.

    sending lots of love x

I called the EPU and they have booked me in for an ERPC for Monday and I am to go in tomorrow for blood tests. I have since seen that there have been cases of mis-diagnosis of missed miscarriage due to tilted uterus. I have a tilted uterus and the first scan 2 weeks ago was done internally and the one yesterday through the belly. Surely they can't compare the two different measurements????
Before my erpc, they checked again internally to make sure, so I assume they'll do it for you too. You should ask though.

Hi Nikki, so sorry you're going through this. Your post brought tears to my eyes (not difficult today for some reason :o) as I remember only too well the utter shock & distress my OH & I felt when I first miscarried.

The decision of how to manage it is a very personal thing, but having done it both ways I agree with Pigpen. I found the waiting around for it to happen "naturally" very upsetting & painful (physically & mentally) although everyone's experience is different (and I do have a pathetically low pain threshold).

At my local EPU if they can't find a heartbeat they always get another sonographer in to confirm (of course, at that point I always hope that they will go "Oh! there is a heartbeat after all!"...but they never do :() You could always ask for another scan if you're worried xx

    Hi Nikki
    Firstly big (((((hugs)))))
I'd had stomach pains which might have indicated an ectopic at about 5 weeks, so they scanned me weekly for 3 weeks, the 2nd one wasn't very positive and the 3rd one showed no growth and no heartbeat.
I just wanted it all over as soon as possible so went for an ERPC 2 days later and bled a bit for about 4 days afterwards. I really didn't want to hang around and wait for it to happen, knowing the pregnancy wasn't going anywhere.
FWIW, my dad's a paediatrician and he was totally sure that there's no way the pregnancy could have been viable and that the scans are very accurate.
The decision is a very personal one and I hope you can get through this. You're not alone, although it probably feels like it now.
  • I have my ERPC tomorrow. When I went for my bloods yesterday they explained that the baby had actually shrunk between the two scans and the second scan was nice and clear so they didn't need to do an internal. I'm happy with that. I can't keep dragging this out. I need/want to get on and start to grieve and I can't do that while I am in this limbo. Thank you so much for your support xx

Take care, and take it easy for a week (((hugs))).
On the practical side, I'd stock up on sanitary towels, big ones.

Hi Nikki, hope today goes as well as it can. Take a couple of magazines as there can be a fair bit of hanging around xxx With my most recent pregnancy, on the last scan I could see that the pregnancy sac was smaller than it had been previously :o

Thinking of you, take care of yourself and have a peaceful weekend xxxxx
  • I feel so numb. I feel so lonely. I feel so empty. I thought I was doing ok but now I'm scared to sleep again. My little pickle has gone :(

    It will pass.. promise...

Just go where the emotional rollercoaster want to take you at the moment..

You have a hormone soup going on, the after effects of an anaesthetic and you are tired and emotional obviously... just take it slow.. you cant rush these things..
