I was tempted by this but I read really bad reviews of Kuwait Airways so I paid a little bit more and booked with Delta/KLM.

Great price though! - Can't beat it!

Woah, Just checked to see the prices to go next year.
We are just back from 10 days staying in the Edison Hotel at TS and flying with Continental from Glasgow for 10day, it cost us £800 each.

Same dates for 2011, same hotel and airline....£5000?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

All depends on your budget doesn't it. Personally I won't go anything other than PE, so anything like this is out for me. ( I couldn't cope being in a small seat because I have a big bum). But for others it might be the difference between going and not.

Tell me about it. We paid £810 for 6 nights in the Doubletree times square last year, this year 5 nights £2590. I nearly died laughing.

Obviously I realise prices will have gone up since you went (inflation and all) but where did you get that deal? The prices im looking at now are about £1,100 for 7 days.

    C.
Try booking it as a package deal(Martin money saver recommends checking out package deals for holidays 7 days or more as they are often cheaper this way than seperate, and safer with strike/ash/cancellation cover etc)
we are going to the New Yorker 5th July for 1 week,2adults +12yr old(tho had to pay as 3 adults)ours cost £2400 from Glasgow(booked in January with Thomson tailormade, but got pricematched with Firstchoice ,so we got the security of booking through a travel agent )same holiday is now around £3000 tho, but thats for 3 adults and includes flights. try checking out Thomson Tailormade or BA for flight +hotel...it may be cheaper.
PS,im already impressed with the New Yorker, they Emailed me to confirm they will supply me a fridge in my room(to store medical injections)Free of charge :)
PS,..just checked, with Thomson tailormade the holiday is £2800+(KLM. Glasgow to Amsterdam to NYC)....but with British airways its £3235(BA. Glasgow to Heathrow to NYC)
    Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
Week 10,total weightloss is now 13.5lbs Week 11 STSweek 14(I think)..-2, total loss now 1 stone exactly
    GOT TO TARGET..1/2lb under now weigh 10st 6.5(lost 1st 3.5lbs)

Been to NYC before but not used the ticket booths as never had chance to see a show before cos of all the sightseeing. Off in Oct and want to see Promises Promises - decent tickets are expensive and I note that last week TKTS booth had smoe for the show - is there a way of finding out how much they were going for?
Do you think I should chance it and buy some out there - want to go on 20 Oct in the afternoon showing??

My experience of TKTS is that not all shows are available and change daily. There is a board as you queue, which names all the available shows and the % off the tickets. They do not however show you the original ticket price. You cannot choose seats or price, the ones I got were 30% off the top price tickets (about $80 each after discount), great seats though.

My advice would be, if you are not fussy about which show you want to see and just want to experience broadway, TKTS is great. If you definitely want a particular show, you could end up very disappointed if you rely on TKTS.

When I went last we wanted to see a show but weren't bothered which we went to, so we went to TKTS in Times Square and got seats for 42nd street. I can't remember how much we saved but the seats were good (and my Mam thought it was incredible that we watched 42nd street in a theatre on 42nd Street!)

However if I did that again I would go to the other TKTS booth near Battery Park (where you get the ferry to the Statue Of Liberty) there's never as many people queing at that one.

If you have your heart set on a particular show, book online in advance you'll still save money and you'll get what you want. If you just want to see a show and really will watch anything - go to TKTS.

Also there are people sometimes hanging around near TKTS trying to sell tickets to plays to people who are thinking about going to see a show. When my Mam went last she decided to see a play instead of a show, and she said it was awful! Im sure there are some good plays, but she said she did it because it was so much cheaper than a musical - I guess you pay your money and you take your chance!

    Hey,thx for all your sharing!
  • A few tips to add here for New York visitors on a budget...

Consider staying across the river to the West of New York itself (Meadowlands/Secaucus). The hotels here are way cheaper than anything in Manhattan, and it's only a 15-20 min bus ride away from Times Square. I've just booked myself into the Hyatt Place in Secaucus, which is number 1 of the hotels in Secaucus according to TA, for arounnd half the price of an equivalent quality hotel in TS (the reviews of this place are great too).

As a bonus, for those who are arriving at Newark Airport and staying in the Secaucus/New Jersey area, Secaucus Taxi's are offering transfers from Newark airport at a special offer rate of $29.96!

For some ideas of activities to do on a shoestring, try some of the walks suggested on this site (highlights for me will be the $1 Chinatown eating walk, the Sweet Tooth walk, and the Flea Market walk!) See:

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
We came back yesterday and what can I say... AMAZING!

NY is huge and we have done mostly everything you should do in NY (ESB, Rock, SoL etc)...

As for the Tickets: We got Tickets for "Promises, Promises" for half the price (roughly $60) with excellent view and I can HIGHLY recommend this show. Its amazing!

Apart from that: Thanks for this thread, it really helped planning our trip.
