It is not recommended to use the shuttle service, could wait a long time for others to fill the mini bus up and be last one dropped off!
Start at the first page of this forum and look for posts by M4RKM who gives tips for getting from the airport cheaply via public transport, plus there is always taxi,s at about 70 dollars.

I used a taxi on my first trip to NY and a shuttle on the second. I had no problem at all with the shuttle. I did find, however, that the taxis are loath to take you back to JFK when you want to return home again. Which is why the second time around I pre-booked the shuttle service.

And M4RKM has not posted on this forum in a very long time ...

my top tip, and this relates to any travel is use a google map, go and fire it up now, dont worry i'll wait for you......................

now go and drop pins in all the places you want to go and things you want to see, so central park, rockerfeller, brooklyn bridge, wtc site etc etc then you will be able to figure out how close things are to each other and make the most of your time, my first visit i probably wasted a day running up and down manhattan and wished i had thought about using google maps

in a word yes, and if you want breath taking'ly hot venture into the subway, but also some of the heaviest thunder storms ive ever been in were in Aug in NY, however just stay hydrated take your time and enjoy it.

    hi

Been a vivid reader of this thread for a while and some good tips have been mentioned !!

I was wondering if anyone has done-would recomend doing new york solo?

I have been twice before with my brother but he is sorta unsure if he can afford to go back, so I am figuring on going solo!

    Has anyone been solo?
Did you feel a lil uneasy?-i guess more to do with eating alone, though doing some research siting at the bar would be a bit better than a formal restraunt kinda place(happy to be proved wrong here!)
At the moment i am looking to go from the 4th-8th august- would this be a good-bad time to go? in my previous visits both being in june.
Looking at different travel sites- plus booking direct with airlines-direct with the hotels to try price up!
Looking to go direct from edinburgh , though a 1 stop would i would consider
any advice welcomed though and thanks in advance
